Events - Ideas - Tips -Discussion
Guys - I thought we should have a running thread where if people want to post their own ideas or events or have tips for me, or simply want to co-ordinate with other members to go do something, then they can post here. BEST WAY TO GET LATEST IDEAS IS TO SIGN UP FOR THIS MEETUP BECAUSE THEN COMMENTS WILL BE SENT TO YOUR MAILBOX. LATEST IDEAS BELOW: John Sims (http://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/197593562/) I went over to Santa Cruz yesterday and managed to catch a good sunset. I shot from Twin Lakes Beach, and had a great view of the Harbor Lighthouse for the foreground. Pics can be seen at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnrsims43/albums/72157675636863396 One nice thing about this location is that there is plenty of parking ($1.50/hr), coffee, Mexican food and Sea food right there. Milky Way is high in the sky, and will improve for the next few months. Right now best time is 3:00 AM. Next month it backs up to 2:00 AM, and occurs earlier each month there after. From Fort Baker, the Milky Way will be above the Golden Gate Bridge. I will try to go this month (weather permitting), and if I miss this month next month for sure (again weather permitting). Chris Fritz (https://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/190454023/) The Orca trip gave me an idea of a photo excursion. How about a trip to the Farallon Islands out of SF? $99 for a full day tour. https://sanfranciscowhaletours.com/ Maybe our group could book the entire boat. Holly (https://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/21065551/) On Aug. 21, less than six months from now, a total solar eclipse will cross the U.S. for the first time in nearly 40 years. “The path of totality for the August eclipse runs from coast to coast,” NASA says. During the total solar eclipse, the moon will completely cover the sun. Either way, if you plan to watch any solar eclipse, NASA officials warn viewers to use protective eyeware. Stanley W.S. (http://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/188781209/) As a new member, I also want to join the discussion by suggesting 2 fabulous places near the Bay Area: Carmel-by-the-Sea and 17 Mile Drive. Here are 2 of the links: 17 Mile Drive-- http://www.californiabeaches.com/17-mile-drive-pebble-beach/ Carmel-by-theSea-- https://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g32172-Carmel_Monterey_Peninsula_California-Vacations.html Donna (http://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/183420148/) Bodie Dynamite mule train demo, historic ghost town, horses & buggies, living history, special tours, historic attire; BBQ Paula (http://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/87235852/) Old Coach Junkyard, it was a very interesting place. If anyone fancies going let me know and I can give you info on it. Great place to practice your HDR Photography! There was also a great auto junkyard down the road that I need to look into as well. Must say though as in all junkyards you have to watch your step! Here is a link to my photos: https://goo.gl/photos/a636Yzvu4uspeySx5 Here is a website I found that lists Ghost Towns in Northern California. The only one I have been to is Bodie but looks like there are a lot more out there: http://www.ghosttowns... (http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/ca/canorthcounty.html) Jaganath Achari (http://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/66738462/) This is a crazy idea. Any interest in shooting a ghost town? Nearest one is probably Drawbridge. Here are some photos for an idea: http://shawnclover.com/2012/01/31/welcome-to-drawbridge/ Scroll down and he has some 16 photos. Safari West - Wild Life We were talking about this place yesterday. http://www.safariwest.com/ Philip Turner (http://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/35154782/) The Forrest of Nisene Marks near Santa Cruz (Famous for big yellow banana slugs!) Eden Landing Ecological Reserve - South of Hayward in Union City and just over the San Mateo bridge on Highway 92. clair waagen (http://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/13763001/) I have been thinking about visiting the Santa Cruz Arboretum and photographing humming birds and flowers. http://arboretum.ucsc.edu/visit/ Lee (http://www.meetup.com/Peninsula-nature-photographers-unite/members/184167659/) Yesterday I visited the area south of Half Moon Bay starting from Cowell Ranch Beach and ending at Bean Hollow. I have an album of this trip on Google for your consideration. https://plus.google.com/photos/116793310169483465387/albums/6141416932732258993

    What we're about

This is a group for people who love nature and are up for exploring new places. Goal is to create astounding images and help each other improve.

All ages and skill-levels welcome. Whether you are a seasoned photographer, a beginner looking to improve and learn how your camera works, or just want to meet these types of people and hang out and be awesome, this is the group for you. I started this group because while there seem to be many hiking groups, many groups interested in photography, not many focused specifically on going to beautiful places with the express purpose of taking great photos. We'll do some hikes, but we'll do them very leisurely, and with a focus on arriving on destinations where we can take good photos outside - this may include some of all of: flowers, scenic views, wildlife, and really anything we feel like it. Lessons in photography will provided for those interested.
