• Target audience
People who want to learn ruby. We will be starting from the basics: basic ruby commands, using the interactive ruby console, how to run a file, how to write a test, how to spin up a Rails project quickly to start creating a website.
• What we'll do
You will join your fellow software developers and write code! This will be a guided workshop so we will all walk through the materials together.
• What to bring
Please bring your laptop! If you do not have a laptop available, please alert the organizers at least 48 hours prior to your arrival and we will be sure to set you up with a loaner laptop for the day.
***IMPORTANT*** Please have ruby installed on your laptop before you come. If you need help installing ruby, please let us know by the Friday before the workshop and we will try to help you get set up. We will have a lot to cover during the workshop and installing ruby can be complicated, so if you do not come with ruby installed, we will ask that you pair with someone who does.
If you use a mac, you should already have ruby installed. How do you know ruby is installed? Try typing "ruby -v" into your terminal application or Command Prompt. That should bring up the interactive ruby shell. If your computer seems confused when you type "ruby -v", you probably need to install ruby.
