What we're about

Welcome! This meetup dedicated to all professionals involved in Cyber Security for Automated Processes and Control Systems including security for Operating Technology (OT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA Systems, Transportation Systems, Building Control Systems (BCS), and even emerging Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems. Our purpose is to connect the professionals in the Greater Philadelphia area with real interest in or responsibility for the cyber security of these systems.

Once we have enough critical mass of interest in Philadelphia, we will gather for purposes of education, information exchange, and discovery of new opportunities and, yes, perhaps a few happy hours! If you are interested in serving on a committee to help shape this meetup experience, please contact the organizers directly.

(CS)²AI Online™: Building Cyber Competency in Control System Engineers

Network event

The professional culture differences between IT and OT are an inescapable part of the control system cyber security equation. Join us as two of (CS)2AI's Founding Fellows discuss the means to solve this puzzle.

Description:

Katie Pehrson and Charlie Givens share and explore the value of a holistic approach to cybersecurity that integrates engineering and security professionals as partners in delivery. This approach enables cybersecurity to be integrated into work processes, design, procurement and startup. Using these types of subject matter experts across several specialty areas with appropriate credentials and experience and including them from the inception can ensure security objectives are achieved.

To adequately address ICS Cybersecurity, a cross-functional team is needed. This team should consist of IT specialists, control engineers, cybersecurity experts, and management, to name a few. For example, having control engineers as part of the assessment team also provides a value-add as it allows them to find issues that your traditional security expert might not find. Additionally, it offers a view into the control system that might reveal security issues, risks and countermeasures that result directly from the solution design.

Speakers:

Katie Pehrson, Manager of Cybersecurity Program Directives (PE) at Bechtel, is a member of Bechtel’s Industrial Control System Cybersecurity Technical Center. https://www.linkedin.com/in/katie-pehrson-ab16b982/

Charlie Givens, Cybersecurity Project Manager at Bechtel and Chair Software Quality Assurance at ASME (MSPM, CSQE, GISCP) was part of Bechtel’s Industrial Control System Cybersecurity Technical Center. www.linkedin.com/in/charlie-givens-mspm-csqe-giscp[masked]

Both Katie and Charlie are interested in the people well as the technical side of ICS Cybersecurity.

(CS)2AI Online(tm): Robots, Rails, Bytes and Risk - A Modern ICS Success Story

Network event

We are very excited to have Brent Huston joining us again. Brent's a 30-year plus security researcher, inventor and evangelist and has worked many amazing projects in highly exclusive and restricted environments. Join us this time as he dives into the control system technologies underlying the 24x265 operations of that linchpin of modern logistics, the robotic warehouse.

Description: Robotic warehousing may not be the first thing we think of when discussing industrial control systems. However, modern automated warehousing is a myriad of different IT and OT technologies that combine to create a robust business solution at an immense scale. In this case study discussion, cyber security veteran Brent Huston will discuss how information security frameworks, technical analysis, machine learning and proper application of risk management techniques led to a successful implementation. We’ll discuss how the project unfolded, some of the significant challenges and lessons learned. We’ll also discuss what it sounds like when robots smash into each other at high speeds and how difficult root cause analysis can be in a complex environment.

Discussion Leader: Brent Huston is an entrepreneur, Inventor & Futurist with a focus on crime, fraud & industrial espionage and keen interest in the impacts of technology across these activities. He's the CEO of MicroSolved, Chief Enlightenment Officer of Bodhi Foundry, and a Principal at Digital Lizard. A widely-recognized cyber security speaker and author, he is also a (CS)2AI Founding Fellow. More at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lbhuston/
