I'm Brian - the organizer of this meetup. I studied history & philosophy in college but I now work as a construction cost estimator. I'm fairly well read in the social sciences & I enjoy wonky discussions about politics, so I started this group!

Do you promise to keep an open mind and help create constructive discussions that don't degenerate into political bickering?

Of course - that's one of my main goals in organizing this group!

List 5 thinkers who have influenced your thinking on political theory, social & cultural issues, economics, foreign policy or other relevant areas:

It's hard to pick just 5, but the most obvious influences on this meetup are John Stuart Mill ("On Liberty"), Karl Popper ("The Open Society and Its Enemies"), Jonathan Haidt ("The Righteous Mind"), Eliezer Yudkowski (Less Wrong sequences), and Scott Alexander (SlateStarCodex essays like "Five Case Studies on Politicization"). If I was going to pick a 6th, it would be Jürgen Habermas ("The Theory of Communicative Action").

If someone asks you what your political orientation is, what do you typically say?

Classical Liberal, Geo-Libertarian, Pragmatist, Bright Green Environmentalist, Transhumanist

How do you score on the Big Five personality test (if you know)?

On the MBTI, I score somewhere between ENTJ & INTP. On FFM, I score high on openness, low on agreeableness & neuroticism, and about average on conscientiousness & extraversion.
