What we're about
The Philadelphia Nightmare Society welcomes all lovers of fiction, especially those who may indulge from time to time in stories of horror. Whether you may enjoy hauntings and poltergeists, psychological thrillers, or tales of descent into pure madness, this group is for you!
Each month we will read a frightful novel (or collection of unsettling stories), then meet to discuss our opinions and thoughts on the authors work. Although our primary focus will be on plot, characterization, and pacing, we will also look into the history of whatever horror we investigate that month.
While we may touch upon some ghastly subject matter, ultimately this is a casual group for friendly readers who want to share the joy of literature and storytelling. We are a community of positive individuals who respect the opinions and experiences of our colleagues.
Whether you may be an avid reader who wants to dip their toes into madness, or a horror enthusiast who wants to get into reading more, or just someone who enjoys spooky stories - the Nightmare Society welcomes you!
Just a few guidelines:
1.) Treat yourself and others with courtesy, kindness, and respect. Discussion and debate is encouraged, but please let everyone have their turn to speak and communicate their ideas and feelings on the subject matter.
2.) Please only RSVP to events you are able to attend. Please update your status if you later become unable to attend. This group is capped at 50 members, with some who are actively waiting for a spot to join. I do take membership and activity very seriously. Members who RSVP to an event but "no-call no-show" will be removed from the group to make room for those waiting to join.
3.) Have fun and share your love for literature!
