The Kickoff Happy Hour
Winter is around the corner and it's time to start thinking about snowboarding and skiing again. This event officially restarts our monthly happy hours. The kickoff happy hour is the most structured happy hour event you'll see this year so it's a great way for newer members to find out what the Philly Freeriders are all about. Also, it's our first happy hour in Philly Freerider history with free food and beer! If you're more of a wine drinker - feel free to bring your own wine, too. However, there is absolutely no liquor allowed in this space. By the end of the kickoff happy hour, everybody will get a chance to meet other members, see highlights from last year's trips, and get details of our upcoming ones. Unlike our other happy hours, this one does have an actual itinerary. I'll try to follow it as close as possible. 6pm: Doors will open to the Basement Lounge for us at the WeWork - Northern Liberties location (https://www.wework.com/buildings/northern-liberties--philadelphia--PA). Grab a beer, get some food, and chat with our new and past members. 7:30pm: Time to sit down and listen up. I'll play Matt’s year-end video to get things started. 745pm: We'll start up a powerpoint presentation (yes, a powerpoint presentation) introducing how the club works, last year's overview, and giving details to our major trips next season. 8:30pm: Open forum, questions? 9:00pm: We have to leave the basement lounge so they can clean up the room. There’s plenty of other places in the area that we can hang out afterwards if anybody still has more energy. WeWork has offered us an amazing space for free for our kickoff happy hour. They’re also supplying a couple kegs of Dock Street Beer (http://www.dockstreetbeer.com) for our space and I’ll be supplying food (probably pizza) to snack on during our time there. If you were one of the 60+ at the kickoff happy hour last year (https://www.meetup.com/Philly-Freeriders/events/242103717/) in City Tap House - Logan Square, it became obvious that we needed a bigger space and upgraded audio/video for the presentation. This space has a projector, microphone, an HDMI connection for our laptop, free food and beer, BYO Wine, and TONS of space to spread out so I want to see a lot of new faces and familiar ones at this event. Transportation: By Car: Street parking only (Front, Germantown, Allen, North American). Do NOT park on North Hancock. By Subway: The Girard Ave. stop on the Market-Frankford line is the closest stop to the WeWork building and it’s within walking distance.

What we're about

Welcome to the Meetup group for the Philly Freeriders Snowboard and Ski Club (PFR)!

PFR is a Philly-based social snowboarding and skiing club. We organize several ski/snowboard trips throughout the country every winter/early spring and get together locally for monthly social events. Our members are younger in body AND mind, mostly in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Our experience levels vary from first timers to cliff-jumping experts. Regardless of your skill level, you are bound to find somebody you can hang with on a group trip.

We are a non traditional ski club that operates without elected positions, affiliations, membership dues, and itinerary-based trips.

New members should attend the Kickoff Happy Hour in August.

It is the most informational and unique happy hour of the year. During the kickoff happy hour, information on the official trips for the season will be presented by their respective trip leaders, including instructions on how you can reserve your spot on the trips. After the kickoff, the trips will be presented as events on the meetup.com page. PFR trips often sell out, so by attending the Kickoff Happy Hour, you have an advantage in making sure you can get a spot on all trips in which you are interested.
