What we're about

Welcome to the Meetup group for the Philly Freeriders Snowboard and Ski Club (PFR)!

PFR is a Philly-based social snowboarding and skiing club. We organize several ski/snowboard trips throughout the country every winter/early spring and get together locally for monthly social events. Our members are younger in body AND mind, mostly in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Our experience levels vary from first timers to cliff-jumping experts. Regardless of your skill level, you are bound to find somebody you can hang with on a group trip.

We are a non traditional ski club that operates without elected positions, affiliations, membership dues, and itinerary-based trips.

New members should attend the Kickoff Happy Hour in August.

It is the most informational and unique happy hour of the year. During the kickoff happy hour, information on the official trips for the season will be presented by their respective trip leaders, including instructions on how you can reserve your spot on the trips. After the kickoff, the trips will be presented as events on the meetup.com page. PFR trips often sell out, so by attending the Kickoff Happy Hour, you have an advantage in making sure you can get a spot on all trips in which you are interested.

Come to SIPS for Happy Hour!

Location visible to members

Hey Freeriders! It’s summer time which means I don’t get to see all of your beautiful faces as often as I’d like. Which is why I am hoping a few (or MANY) of you will join me for Center City SIPS! Let’s catch up and I’m sure we will all be chatting about this year’s trips! (Obvi) If you’re brand new to the club, then HEYYYY! We want to meet you and tell you all the details and secrets to make sure you get on a trip next year! The Philly Freeriders is very much a family and no matter your skill level, age, etc., you can be a member! SIPS happens every Wednesday and seeing that there’s a chance for thunderstorms, since IBG is partly covered we will be good to go either way. Come join me on Wednesday, September 26, 2019 at 5:30PM-ish at Independence Beer Garden near Independence Hall. If you have questions about the event: feel free to message me, Sara Gladney. or Facebook message me or send a carrier pigeon.

Ikon Pass Group Rate - $100 Off Adult Passes

Needs a location

Fill out the form at http://bit.ly/PhillyIkon by July 29th to pay only $649 for the Ikon Base pass. The discount also works for $100 off the full pass. If are buying a pass for a Young Adult (Age 13-22), you will get $60 off the base pass or $80 off a full pass. The Ikon Base pass makes sense if you plan to ski 7-10+ days at Ikon resorts, especially if some of those days are at a western mountain where the lift ticket prices are much higher. For next season the club will have trips to both Ikon and non-Ikon destinations. More information about club trips will be available in June. More details about the discount can be found at http://bit.ly/PhillyIkon Post any questions in the comment section below.

Phillies Tailgate Party (and game)

Citizens Bank Park

It's looking like Phillies tickets will be a hot commodity this Summer so I'm excited to announce our first ever Phillies tailgate party. *****You will be marked as WAITLIST until payment for the ticket is received. 50 tickets are available. Paypal: [masked] or Venmo: @Dave-DePiano for payments.***** (If using Paypal, make sure you send as friends/family instead of goods/services) The Absolute Basics: Who: Phillies vs. Red Sox (the defending World Series champions). You don't have to be a club member to participate. This is about as close to a family-friendly event as we'll get. Chris did the leg work for getting the tickets so make sure to thank him. Tickets are limited to 50, but that may decrease if the game gets closer and we haven't sold out. What: Tailgate before the game starts then watch the game. Let's cook some food, drink some drinks, play some games, etc. I'll bring a keg and some food, but please bring food/beverages to share with everybody. If you don't know what a tailgate party is, I'm not talking about following vehicles too closely. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailgate_party Where: Tailgate at the K lot (it's the covered parking lot with solar panels). The game is at Citizens Bank Park. See the map. Parking is not free ($18 I think?). Feel free to take the subway if you want. Hopefully we'll have enough cars that get there early to reserve spaces together for our event. When: Tailgate Date/Time: Saturday, 9/14 @2pm Game Date/Time: Saturday, 9/14 @7pm Why: Phillies, food, and Freeriders. At this point of the year, the Winter is right around the corner. It's a great time to get to know your fellow Philly Freeriders (Winter roommates). Cost: $25 (includes a ticket to the game ($24) and a PFR membership card ($1) for the 19/20 season). $0 if you just want to join the tailgate. If using Paypal, make sure you send as friends/family instead of goods/services. ------------------------- More details as the event gets closer.

INTRO Dust off those passports because this year PFR is making a triumphant return to Mont Tremblant, Quebec to say goodbye to 2019! Mont Tremblant is the only east coast mountain (Ikon) not blacked out for the holidays. Only 80 miles north of Montreal, Mont-Tremblant is a beckoning winter oasis carved out of the Laurentian mountain range. Mont Tremblant has some of the most diverse terrain on the East Coast to challenge all levels of skiers and riders. With 662 acres of diverse skiable terrain, Mont-Tremblant offers 96 ski trails on four slopes. It’s a great place for beginners, with the south side’s 3.7-mile Nansen run—the mountain’s longest and a rare feature—providing a good introduction to the sport, and the local ski school is considered one of the best in North America. Veterans will be challenged with glades on the north side’s The Edge. The night life at Tremblant is awesome. The village has breweries, dance clubs, crepes, and last time we were there for new years, a huge free party on the 31st. THE BASICS * 12/28 to 1/1 * $330 per person for lodging * Pay $150 to hold your spot - Paypal: [masked] * Drive to Mont Tremblant, QC on Saturday, leave on Wednesday * 4 nights of lodging * I am fronting the damage deposit. If you cause any damage to the property you are responsible for any costs associated with those damages. DATES The 4 nights of lodging include Saturday (12/28), Sunday, and Monday, and Tuesday (12/31) nights. CAPACITY We can comfortably fit 12 people on this trip without anyone having to sleep on a sofa bed (yay!) [one king, two queens, two twins, and a room with two sets of twin bunkbeds—beds will be assigned in the order full payment ($330) is received] LODGING WHY YES, THERE IS A HOT TUB! We’ll be staying at Chalet Chinook Tremblant, a lakeside chalet with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms that sleeps 12 and includes WiFi internet throughout the cottage, a 45-inch HD TV, satellite TV with digital recorder, Xbox 360 and Blu-ray player in addition to a Chromecast to stream content from your mobile devices. In addition there is a hot tub to relax those sore muscles after a day of skiing or riding. Our house is approximately 20-25 minutes from the mountain. LIFT TICKETS Tremblant is on the Ikon Pass so you are set if you are a passholder. If you are not an Ikon Passholder, 2018/19 pricing was $99 daily and $79 multi-day passes bought at least 48 hours in advance. COST / RESERVE YOUR SPOT / REFUNDS To hold your spot, send $150 to Kelly on PayPal at [masked]. This $150 is refundable until October 1. After that date, there are no refunds. The remaining balance ($180) needs to be paid by September 30, but remember, if you pay earlier, you will have better luck at getting your bed selection. The $330 covers 4 nights of lodging at Chalet Chinook. TRANSPORTATION Transportation will be on your own, but as we get closer we will organize carpools. You can figure out with your carpool how to split gas and tolls. The drive is about 9 hours. As an alternative, you can fly into Montreal and rent a car—it is about a two hour drive.
