Freeriders Take Over Marsh Creek
Though our season is officially over, the fun and physical activity do not have to end. On July 15, the Philly Freeriders will head to Marsh Creek State Park (a 535-acre lake) for some non-motorized water fun, followed by a post-lake barbecue and pool party that Ryan has generously agreed to host. BBQ address will be provide to all of those who attend. Bring your kayak, sunfish, windsurfer, or stand-up paddle board and join us for a day on the water. If you do not own non-motorized water stuff or do not want the hassle, Groupon regularly offers discounts to Marsh Creek rentals, which offers all of the above at fairly reasonable prices. Here is the link to a current groupon: https://www.groupon.com/deals/marsh-creek-watersports-4-12. This counts as a “local” deal, so if you wait until you get a promo code, you can get it for even cheaper. NOTE: If you bring your own kayak, boat, or board, you have to register it with the park or get a launching permit. You can find a local launching permit agent in your county here: http://www.fishandboat.com/Boat/RegisterTitle/Pages/LaunchPermitAgentsBoat.aspx. Contact them for additional information. You must also have PFDs on your boat/board sufficient for the number of people on the water. Marsh Creek is usually in the mid-70s temperature wise by July. You cannot swim in the lake (but if you fall off your boat, no one rushes you out of the water). There is a public pool area to which you can buy a day pass near the lake, if that is more your speed. Alcohol is prohibited at Marsh Creek, however, we encourage you to pack your own picnic lunch and non-alcoholic beverages. Please RSVP if you intend to join. Rain date: TBD

What we're about

Welcome to the Meetup group for the Philly Freeriders Snowboard and Ski Club (PFR)!

PFR is a Philly-based social snowboarding and skiing club. We organize several ski/snowboard trips throughout the country every winter/early spring and get together locally for monthly social events. Our members are younger in body AND mind, mostly in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Our experience levels vary from first timers to cliff-jumping experts. Regardless of your skill level, you are bound to find somebody you can hang with on a group trip.

We are a non traditional ski club that operates without elected positions, affiliations, membership dues, and itinerary-based trips.

New members should attend the Kickoff Happy Hour in August.

It is the most informational and unique happy hour of the year. During the kickoff happy hour, information on the official trips for the season will be presented by their respective trip leaders, including instructions on how you can reserve your spot on the trips. After the kickoff, the trips will be presented as events on the meetup.com page. PFR trips often sell out, so by attending the Kickoff Happy Hour, you have an advantage in making sure you can get a spot on all trips in which you are interested.
