Future of C# + First Look at Blazor

Details

Our monthly meeting will be held April 18 from 5:30-8:00 on the second floor of the Microsoft Malvern MTC in Malvern. Refreshments are provided courtesy of philly.NET.

Scott Kay – The Future of C#

It's an exciting time to be a C# developer! C# is now open source with a modern compiler which makes it easier and quicker than ever before to extend the language. In this session, we'll review recently released C# 7.x features, demonstrate what's scheduled for the next release, and explore the concepts under consideration for future major milestones.

Chris Gomez – First Look at Blazor

Blazor is an experimental .NET web framework using C#, Razor, and HTML that runs in the browser thanks to WebAssembly. This allows you to choose a full stack approach to web development with .NET if you want to stay in C# from front end to back end. And most importantly, The ASP.NET team has now released a public preview!

Besides just a technique to compile C# to a WebAssembly deliverable for the browser, Blazor is a web development framework. Blazor takes cues from modern JavaScript frameworks but respects the history of web development with ASP.NET. There's early support for features like routing, dependency injection, and JavaScript interop with more to come so you feel at home developing applications in your favorite tools like Visual Studio.

Join us as we will take a first look at acquiring the Blazor tooling and developing apps with this preview. This is an early, experimental build and definitely NOT ready for production, but the time is now to get involved and help steer the course for an approach like this. We'll talk about how you can be a part of this and add your voice if you want to see this move forward. It's for you to decide what you think!

This session will live stream on Mixer at our channel https://mixer.com/phillydotnet.
