Science on Tap is a monthly science café in Philadelphia for anyone who is interested in getting together with other people to discuss a range of engaging science topics. Normally, it's held at National Mechanics, but this month is a special event entitled "Untapped Ruins Everything" and it's held at Penn Museum's Rainey Auditorium.
Cost: $10 ticket, which includes snacks (cash bar) - go here to purchase tix: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/science-on-tap-untapped-ruins-everything-tickets-47363265803
Event Description: Join us for a lively and hilarious night as we pay homage to our favorite portrayals of science onscreen. We’ll share clips from our favorite TV shows and movies and explain the real science behind scenes that range from the brazenly bad to the surprisingly accurate.
Cosplay encouraged! Show up as your favorite TV or film character doing science and get a chance to win awesome prizes.
Speakers:
- Nicole Altman, Museum Specialist, Independence National Historical Park
- Katy Blanchard, Keeper of the Near Eastern Collections at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology
- Anna N. Dhody, Curator, Mütter Museum, and Director, Mütter Research Institute
- Elisabeth Berry Drago, Public History Fellow, Science History Institute
- Aaron Lawson, Museum Educator, Wagner Free Institute of Science
- Timshel Purdum, Assistant Vice President, Public Experience at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University
Finding our Group: Our members typically arrive individually and grab a spot to watch the presentation, but once it's over, the place clears out pretty quickly and our group usually finds each other at this point and we grab a table, share some drinks and talk about what we learned. Keep in mind, I only attend these occasionally. When I can't make it, please try to find each other by posting where you're seated in the comments or simply looking for each other. Sometimes, it can be hard to find the group. In those cases, don't be afraid to sit at a table with strangers & introduce yourself - I've always found the people that show up for Science on Tap tend to be friendly & interesting.
