7:25 - Panel: From Pets to Serverless
A discussion of several approaches to deploying "machines", along a loose continuum.
• Carefully manually managed machines ("pets")
• Machines that are long-lived but managed by config management tools like Chef, Ansible, etc.
• Immutable machines: each change results in replacement
• Containers build using CM tools and deployed manually
• Container fleet management, such as Kubernetes; or baked-image autoscaling in AWS
• Functional computing / "Serverless"
What are the advantages of moving between these approaches? What are the prerequisites and costs? Are some approaches better suited, depending on greenfield or brownfield status?
8:10 - Mingle, transition to after-meetup
8:15 - After-Meetup Drinks (1511 Locust Street, Misconduct Tavern - Private basement room) - Sponsored by devopsgroup.io, LLC
