Follow the CloudTrail: learn what happens in your AWS account when you're not around

CloudTrail is the access log for Amazon Web Services: it records most (but not all!) of the client requests that affect your AWS deployment,. As such it's the primary forensic tool to answer questions such as "who deleted that Lambda?!?" Unfortunately, the volume and variety of data can be overwhelming, making it an underutilized tool.
This talk looks at the data that CloudTrail records, and the options that you can use for querying that data. Along the way we show a few couple of real-world scenarios that can use CloudTrail, and best practices for setting up your trails.

Keith Gregory has been a professional software developer since 1984. In that time he's worked in fields ranging from real-time data acquisition to massively-parallel databases. Currently, he focuses on "cloud native" application architectures.
