What we're about

Mindfulness/awareness meditation is the foundation of all that we do at the Shambhala Meditation Center. This ancient practice of self-discovery is rooted in the simple but revolutionary premise that every human being has the ability to cultivate the mind’s inherent stability, clarity and strength in order to be more awake and to develop the compassion and insight necessary to care for oneself and the world genuinely. Our regular sittings are Wednesday night 7-7:30pm and Sunday morning 9:30-11am. All sittings are free and open to the public. Meditation instruction is available upon request. For further information, please visit our web site at phoenix.shambhala.org

Sarpashana was known as the Buddhist Alcohol Study Group when it began in the mid-1980s in Boulder for members dealing with alcoholism or alcohol-related problems. This is a study group for all those interested in relating their path of meditation and dharma studies to their alcohol or other addictions and recovery. We explore the challenges, as well as the opportunities, that our addictions and attachments provide us in this context. Sarpashana is not viewed as a substitute for other recovery systems, but as an additional support for other means of recovery. The meetings combine meditation, study, and discussion. Meetings are from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings.

Harvest of Peace

Phoenix Shambhala Meditation Center

Please join us for an online Harvest of Peace celebration. See below for instructions on joining the online meeting. There will be no in-person meeting at the Center. This event takes the place of regular Sunday sitting for this week only. ______________________________ Over the years the Shambhala community has adopted a tradition of celebrating the changes of the seasons. These are called “nyida” days from the Tibetan words nyima (sun) and dawa (moon), and they occur on, or near, the days of the equinoxes and solstices. Nyida days are family-oriented celebrations and occasions for local Shambhala communities to gather socially. Harvest of Peace observes the autumn equinox. This year the Phoenix community will gather online for Harvest of Peace. Please join us starting at 9:30 am for a practice of the Shambhala Sadhana. We will follow the Sadhana with tea, conversation, and a sharing circle. Enjoy your own refreshments in a virtual tea, and share your favorite recipes with us! We will be collecting submissions for a recipe share in advance of Harvest of Peace. Please send your favorite recipes to us at [masked], and we will compile and distribute them. Our sharing circle will include the questions "What am I letting go of?" and "What am I aspiring to?" Feel free to contemplate these questions and share your responses at the event. To continue the Harvest of Peace celebration after our Phoenix event has concluded, navigate over to Shambhala Online for a special Sunday Gathering starting at 12:00 pm Arizona Time - Mindful Harvest Feasting: A Harvest of Peace Celebration. This gathering will honor the harvest season through an appreciation of good food and sangha fellowship.
