The Library Module is where you can import, sort, view, rate, compare and organize your images within Lightroom. It can be thought of as your "home base" once you import your images into Lightroom. It has many wonderful features for photographers however this is the module that many people struggle with and therefore this course is designed to help you understand how this module works and how to utilize the various features that are available and how to import your images, quickly and easily, into your Lightroom catalog.

This course will be part 1 of 3 separate Lightroom courses which will be held over a 3 week period. You can sign up for one or all three, depending on your needs and skill level.

TBA: The Develop Module workshop will be on Saturday, March 15th, and the Print Module is TBA.

Who should join us: Beginning and experienced users of Lightroom who want to more fully understand the various features of the library module and how they work. This course will be geared toward those who want to learn how to import and organize their images so that they can be found quickly and easily.

What we will cover: We will thoroughly cover the library module in depth through hands-on examples and exercises.

The following topics will be covered:

*Importing images smoothly, key wording, rating images, using the various view modes and comparing images.

*Collections, including quick collections and smart collections.

*Organization: simple tools to help you organize your images quickly and efficiently but most importantly, so you can find them later.

*Various ways to import your images into Lightroom...importing images directly from a compact flash or SD media card from your camera AS WELL AS how to add existing images on your computer or external hard drive to your lightroom catalog.

  • How to use an external hard drive to store your images and keep your internal hard drive from filling up.

*How to Avoid a LR folder mess

*Take charge of where LR puts your photos

  • Rename Files

*Fix as you import, make an import preset

*Apply metadata

*Get beyond dates as your organizing system

What to bring: A laptop with Adobe Lightroom already installed (version 4 or 5). Trial version is fine, too. Also bring your external hard drive (if you use one for storing your images) as well as a memory card from your camera with images that can be uploaded as this will be part of a class exercise. Also bring a card reader for uploading if you use one, or a cord if you go directly from the camera. A power cord to your computer, a thumb drive and paper to take notes.

If you do not have a laptop or desktop you can bring, you may share with a friend or take notes, if that works for you.
