I hope your weekend plans include taking lots of pictures and working on positive and negative space in your photos for next Thursday's monthly meeting at the Sequoya branch library. Remember positive space is the subject, negative space is the area that surrounds it and highlights it. It can be empty space, an out of focus or textured background. Here is a nice overview from Light Stalking.
I hope that you have been able to take advantage of some of the cool meetups that have happened recently: an exclusive look at rock n' roll memorabilia at Midwest Family Broadcasting, night shooting at the Dane County fair and the photo scavenger hunt along Monroe St. Coming up we will meet for drinks and/or dinner on the patio at Sprecher's on Sun July 28th and photograph the Electric Run on Willow Island on Sat Aug 3rd.
And we can use your help for more meetup ideas! Summer is such a great season for photography with long days, beautiful light and warm weather. If you have an idea or an event which would offer some cool photo possibilities (a nature walk, food festival, sports, whatever you can think of), please add it to the schedule. Joining and being an active partner in a photo community can be very rewarding and as one of our members Katie says on her blog it can help improve your photography too.
So join us and help us make the most of the dog days of August, but don't forget the sunscreen and the bug spray!
See you soon!
