Coming In May Pickleball Basics Pickleball is a sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It’s played on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes. It can be played as doubles or singles. According to USAPA, there are over 15,000 indoor and outdoor courts in the United States; and at least one location in all 50 states. Pickleball is gaining popularity in San Francisco. The San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department sponsors pickleball play 4 times per week at Golden Gate Park. The sport can be competitive, but it’s fairly simple to learn and is not heavy on technique. It is a wonderful way to stay active, work the body in all three planes and increase and or maintain agility.
1333Fit is offering five sessions in May to introduce members to the game. We will explain the rules, demonstrate the basics of the game, and give participants a chance to try it out. If we find sufficient interest at 1333fit, we will consider adding an ongoing pickle ball group to our schedule.
Classes will be held on 5 consecutive Wednesday's in May (2nd,9th,16th,23rd,and 30th) at 9:00 am on the Tennis Courts. Jim Spinelli and Geni Quataroli will lead the sessions. There is no charge for members. it's $15.00 per session for non-members. For non-members accompanied by a member-$10.00 per session.
