Looking to create a group for local photographers that are beyond the point of simply taking pictures and looking to create something more lasting with their work. Hopefully through other members critique and encouragement, we can each find what it is we are trying to say through our photographs.
When I assumed the leadership of this group, one of the goals I set was to have a gallery show of our collective work. That goal has taken a step closer. The Merrick Art Gallery in New Brighton, Pa. has agreed to review our work for consideration for a show possibly as early as the end of this year but more likely the early part of next year. The Merrick (www.merrickartgallery.org) is small but prestigious gallery that houses an extraordinary collection of 18th,19th and 20th Century European and American masterwork paintings. For those who have always wanted to exhibit their work, this is a fabulous opportunity. What do you need to do, you may ask? I need as many members as possible to pick three to four of their best images, any subject matter. Send them to my e-mail address ([masked]). I will collect them to a CD and submit them to the Merrick board for review.
Digital dimension of each image should be in jpeg format with a screen size no larger than 5x7 and saved at 300dpi. File size is limited to 5 MB or less. Each image should be labeled as follows: Artist's name, title of work, year created, medium (eg: Krachinski, Lone Tree, 2013, photograph, jpeg). The deadline for this is June 9th. The Merrick committee is meeting the following week. That still gives you two weeks to pick your best work. Nothing has to be matted or framed so don't panic about that yet. We have over 100 members now so I expect a nice collection of work. I am looking for as much cooperation as possible.
