• Plant Based Chico Meeting- Back to Basics how to start a plant based lifestyle

Hi everyone! Our meeting has changed for tomorrow night. Due to circumstances that were beyond my control California Balsamic will not be at our meeting tomorrow evening. This is not on their part but on mine. I was very sick for the better park of this past month and was unable to promote them. I hope to reschedule with Thomas in the near future. I've had an outpouring of requests to do a Back to Basics Plant Based lifestyle class. Through our Instant Pot classes we've introduced plant based living to many people who are now plant based curious. Tomorrow I plan to go over the basic "How To's" on starting a plant based lifestyle. This meeting will be centered around beginners asking questions and sharing plant based resources to get them started. I'm also going to take a poll over in our Face Book Group to see if we should take a summer break since it get so hot and noisy from the coolers in the Guilds hall. I'm thinking we can reconvene in September? What are your thoughts?

  • Plant Based Chico welcomes Chef Kathy Anderson

    2775 Nord Ave

Plant Based Chico Welcomes chef Kathy Anderson. Kathy recently graduated from the Rouxbe professional culinary school. Kathy will teach us the: The Risotto Method An authentic risotto is a deliciously-creamy, Italian rice dish. Risotto is very popular – even outside of Italy – for its simplicity and versatility. It can be made with very few ingredients or it can be transformed into something quite elaborate. It is important to realize that risotto is not just a dish. The risotto method is also one of the four main cooking methods used to cook a variety of rice and grains. When cooked using the risotto method, these other grains will produce delicious “risotto-style” dishes. In this lesson, you will learn how to make a basic risotto from start to finish. You will learn how to choose the proper pan, along with the type of rice or grain. You will also learn how to incorporate the right amount of liquid into risotto, how to test the risotto for doneness and how to finish a basic risotto. You will learn several ways to vary a basic risotto. Once the risotto method becomes part of your cooking repertoire, you will see just how easy it is to create a variety of delicious and satisfying meals. But first, it is important to master the technique of making a basic risotto because every other risotto – no matter what is added – will be based upon the principles learned in this lesson.

  • Plant Based Chico restaurant campaign and Thanksgiving Pot Luck Planning

Please join Plant Based Chico as we dive into our local restaurant campaign. Plant Pure Communities has put together a tool kit that helps PODS like ours work with local restaurants to encourage a plant based meal is added to their menu. At the meeting we'll go over the tool kit, see what all is involved then put a restaurant committee group together. *** (I'll upload the tool kit to the group files so you can go over it, print it out and bring it to the meeting with your notes).*** We'll then decide how many restaurants we'd like to reach out to. We can select one for starters, hone our campaign skills then approach more local restaurants. This will mark the beginning of our community outreach programs. After we've discussed the restaurant campaign I'd like to discuss having a Plant Based Chico Thanksgiving Pot luck. I've reserved the Chico Guilds Hall for Sunday November 11th. Time: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Nick and I are so grateful to all of you who truly enrich our lives. Let's all come together, share a plant based meal and give thanks. <3

  • Restoring thyroid health through nutrition and detox

    Chico Community Guild Hall

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Shanhong Lu, a Naturopath from Mt. Shasta. Dr. Lu will be sharing with us how our thyroid plays a key role in our health and how important a plant based lifestyle is to healing our thyroid. The big issue is also environmental toxins and how they play a role in thyroid health. Dr. Lu has a bio-metric scanner that checks a persons mineral level and heavy metal level. Nick and I were scanned two weeks ago at Dinner with the Doctor up in Anderson. I'm happy to report I'm a little low in sodium and magnesium. I have no heavy metal toxicity. However.... Nick has a high level of Mercury in his system. Way to much to be honest. We've been trying to figure out the source. Nick is a Mathews, of the Mathews Ready Mix family. He grew up working in the family gravel and cement business. Nick ran the rock crusher. He was exposed to all the gold mining toxins that flowed down the Feather River. This is our summation as we've been married almost 34 years, we eat the same, drink the same and live together. Dr. Lu normally charges $100.00 for the bio-metric scan but for Plant Based Chico Members she'll be charging $50.00 which is her cost. You'll receive a print out of your results. What to do if you're like Nick and have a heavy metal toxicity in your body? Well... There are options, Nick is going get a hair and blood sample done by his primary care provider and he's going to do a detox Protocol recommended by Dr. Lu. I'm not going to "kale coat" it. It's going to be expensive but Mercury is a bad thing. We're also looking at his dental fillings to see if one maybe fractured and leaching mercury into his body. However this isn't likely because Nicks level far exceeds the mercury in a dental filling. So... If I've peeked your curiosity, we'd love to see you at our meeting tomorrow evening. The Bio-Metric scan is optional, the presentation is very educational. Feel free to bring a dish to share! We're bringing Potato Salad.
