What we're about
Pnei Hamayim Center for Jewish Spirituality nourishes a progressive, pluralistic, radically inclusive community of seekers with mindfulness teachings and spiritual practices from the heart of Judaism.
We define radically inclusive as celebratory of identities across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, and open to all who celebrate them with us.
The center was founded in January 2017 by Jewish meditation practitioner and educator Alan Elhart as a home for contemplative Jewish life in the Greater Phoenix area.
Pnei Hamayim is Hebrew for "Face of the Waters," evoking the mind's alternation between turbulence and stillness. Water appears frequently in Jewish mystical writings as a metaphor for consciousness.
Tuesday Night Mindfulness Sessions include sitting instructions, a 20-min silent meditation, a Torah talk, and a Q&A period/discussion.
Half-day Retreats include singing of niggunim/wordless melodies, chanting, mindful movement, Torah discussions, and a deeper exploration of mindfulness meditation practices.
Hope you can join us at an upcoming event!
