The Java ecosystem has always been growing in depth and breadth. With over a dozen different JDK distributions now available from different vendors including IBM's own distribution called "Semeru Runtimes", users have the freedom and flexibility of choosing the right JDK that meets technical objectives and business needs, at the finest level.
In this talk, we're going to help you better understand the Java ecosystem and how it affects you and your use of Java. Whether you're using Java 8, Java 11, or Java 17 we'll explain how to get your Java at IBM and cover the roadmap for what you and your customers should expect in the coming year. We will also examine some of the coolest innovations those were incorporated in the Semeru Runtimes, that are specifically designed to execute efficiently in containerized workloads.
Speaker Bio
Samir Kamerkar is Program Director in IBM's Automation organization. He has been a Java developer with over 25 years in the software industry. In his current job, he now leads Runtimes Technologies team at IBM Software labs across India, Japan, UK and Canada, who enhance and maintain IBM's independent implementation of Java, the Semeru Runtimes and also contribute heavily to opensource runtime projects like Eclipse OpenJ9 and OpenJDK. Samir represents IBM on the OpenJDK governing board as the Vice Chair and is also a steering committee member of the Adoptium Working group.
Gireesh Punathil is an IBM Master inventor and an Architect in IBM Runtimes - that deals predominantly on Java and Node.js runtimes. In 20 years of his career, he has been porting, developing and debugging web servers, virtual machines, compilers and cloud platform frameworks. His expertise is in problem isolation and determination of large and complex software modules. He has spoken at several Node.js and Java conferences.
