Our meetings ar back at Palmer!
Join us at Port Orange Toastmasters Club each Wednesday evening as you work on enhancing your communication and leadership skills. Be it public speaking, presentations, or general conversations, Toastmasters will strengthen your communication skills and boost your confidence. We meet at Palmer College in Building 1, Room 1207. (Building closest to Dunlawton Ave.; Room 1207 is upstairs.) ***** TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL Toastmasters International is a place where you develop and grow—both personally and professionally. You join a community of learners—in Toastmasters meetings, we learn by doing. Whether you're an executive or a stay-at-home parent, a college student, or a retiree, you will improve yourself, building skills to express yourself in a variety of situations. You'll open up a world of new possibilities: giving better work presentations, leading meetings—and participating in them—more confidently, speaking more smoothly off-the-cuff, and handling one-on-one interactions with family, friends, and colleagues more positively. By learning to effectively formulate, organize, and express your ideas to others, you can achieve all kinds of success. You'll be more capable and confident when giving presentations. You'll be more persuasive when pitching prospective clients. Want to be better at negotiating your salary with your boss? Networking at business or social functions? Motivating co-workers—or your kids? Become the speaker and leader you want to be. Confident, charismatic leaders weren't born that way. Toastmasters members learn to tell their story. They listen and answer. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership. Toastmasters International. Where leaders are made. ***** The following was written by Richard Thripp of Port Orange Toastmasters: WHAT IS TOASTMASTERS? Toastmasters is an international non-profit organization that helps individuals improve their communication, speaking, and leadership abilities. This is accomplished through a structured curriculum consisting of the Competent Communication, Competent Leadership, and other workbooks that help individuals prepare speeches to meet certain objectives (e.g., persuasion, humor, vocal variety, etc.). During Toastmasters meetings, members provide constructive feedback and evaluations to speakers. Meetings generally consist of 5–7 minute prepared speeches and 1–2 minute impromptu speeches, as well as other evaluative, inspirational, and humorous components. Toastmasters consists of thousands of chapters ("clubs") all around the world. Including Port Orange Toastmasters, there are 7 active, public clubs in Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach, and Port Orange: http://toastmastersd84.org/divisions.html [Click "Division G"] Toastmasters meeting spaces are generally donated to clubs as a public service. Toastmasters funds its publications, administration, and advertising primarily through membership dues. The dues for Port Orange Toastmasters are a one-time fee of $25.00 plus $8.00 monthly, billed semi-annually (pro-rated). You are welcome to attend and participate in impromptu speeches and other roles without joining, however. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxAV39ySH2A
