Growing Local Design Competition
The theme of the competition is Growing Local, you can find some inspiration for what this entails at http://3dp.li/umgrowlocal . For the competition we are focusing on indoor and window gardens. There are no physical dimension limits but remember that you'll want to transport the garden design to the meetup on April 19th for display and judging.
Register for Competition: http://3dp.li/pdx3dplab
The competition itself is divided into 4 categories:
Best Functional System: The best functional indoor system in terms of actually in use, growing plants.
Whether this means the designs already existed or it's a new design the goal is a thriving garden. If you are limited on time and want to get involved or design isn't your thing this category is for you. Print an existing design and watch the plants grow!
Deliverables: Prints with plants growing in them.
(Hint: herbs & grass for cats grow quickly)
Best Original Design
Have an idea for a indoor garden? This category is for you! Design an indoor garden in your favorite software and share it!
Deliverables: Design files uploaded to https://www.youmagine.com/ with tags pdx3dplab, growlocal. Ideally we'd like to have prints on display at the meetup on April 19th. If you don't have a printer or sufficient time to print the designs please reach out so we can try to get prints done for the event.
Uniquest, cleverest, most helpful remix to an existing design. This is for those that love to tweak and improve things!
Deliverables: Design files uploaded to https://www.youmagine.com/ with tags pdx3dplab, growlocal. Please credit and/or link to the original design that you are remixing. Ideally we'd like to have prints on display at the meetup on April 19th. If you don't have a printer or sufficient time to print the designs please reach out so we can try to get prints done for the event.
Most easily Reproduced
Let's face it, we often overlook documentation. Sharing files is one thing, but can the system be built and implemented by others? Whether the documentation be written or a video. Can someone else easily reproduce the results? This does not need to be your design, it can be a design that you've found, struggled with and now want to share with others how to do it.
Deliverables: The "how-to", whether it's a written explanation, a video, or an old school poster board display doesn't matter. Files submissions small enough to be emailed can be sent to [masked] by 11:59pm on April 18th. For videos or files too large to email, upload to an appropriate place and email the link to [masked]
Can I enter more than one category?
Yes, absolutely! In fact you could design your own system, print it, and grow plants in to enter both the original design and functional print categories. And if you're feeling extremely industrious then provide documentation for the most easily reproduced category!
When do the design files need to be uploaded to youmagine?
Deadline for file uploads to be considered for judging is midnight the night before the meetup, so 11:59pm April 18th
If you have questions please email Keith at [masked] and we'll get an answer up here as part of the FAQ
