Another Time for Listening

I'd like to host a casual listening session. I'll introduce my system, play some comparisons of different pressings/masterings/media, and we can let it rip open some from there.

My system is a straight-ahead stereo with a 20-bit CD player and vintage LP-12 'table as front end sources. I have about[masked] CD's and an equal amount of vinyl, with a good amount of audiophile stuff. Musical tastes run the gamut and blur lines, but think classical to jazz, rock, bluegrass, with some world music thrown into the mix (ever hear a santoor or a sarod or hindustani vocal?).

There are two sets of speakers in different areas of my house. The main pair reside with the “rig”. The second set are a much beloved pair of vintage EPI 100's that still hold up. We'll utilize both areas for up to 12 people and trade off seats as we need to.

We can play around with placement of the EPI's to see what we can get out of them. If we get really ambitious at some point, we can move the speakers together for some extra oomph.

Please come and enjoy plant-based snacks, liquid refreshments, and of course the music! Stay for some or all of the afternoon. No foolin'.

For those that made it to my place months back, you might recall my amp with the distinctive v-notch heat sinks. Well the Aragon moniker is back in production along with the Acurus line. There's a M-III version of my amp, the 8008. It had rave reviews in the day and was on Recommended Components for quite some time. Here's a link about the new products and a write-up by Steve Guttenberg:

It was absolutely my pleasure to have everyone over. The interaction and interest was great. I really apprecaite the feedback. In trying to select music to compare, I kept finding treasures in my collection, as well listening to my system more than I've done in awhile. Great time, looking forward to the next one.

This was a good one. Lots of A/B comparison of different recordings, and vinyl/CD. It was a comfortable setting too. I think we should have more meet ups like this. Thanks a lot Richard.

Relaxed and highly enjoyable get together, ably hosted by Rich C. The many comparisons across media were fascinating.

I'm very excited about hosting tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing those that have signed up and enjoying some tunes. In the past few weeks I've tore my system apart and put it back together striving to make it sound good as I can get. I've enjoyed dozens of CDs and LPs and have a list that's still too long but selected some very special pieces. My listening areas are close in but I think we'll accomdate everyone so come enjoy some snacks and refreshments and the music. drive safe -Richard
