The Martin Memorial Board Tournament

Details
New Year, New Board...
A very special event and a memorial for Portland's own Martin D'Alexander. Many of you will have fond memories of playing with Martin over the years - I certainly do. He was a mentor to me in the game, and a favorite but feared opponent. Sadly, Martin passed away at the end of June 2020 from complications due to lung cancer. He had struggled with health issues the entire time that I knew him, but always had a positive attitude about it. "I'm on stolen time" he would often say, a reminder to appreciate and treasure each day we have in this life.
As he went into hospice, we discussed the possibility of this event, and he was enthusiastic about the idea, volunteering his board as the prize.
In honor of Martin's favorite roll (1-1), we will gather on New Year's Day for this single elimination, 7-point match tournament. $50 entry, first prize is a well used tournament size Wycliff board, with orange field, white & black pips and precision dice - lightly repaired and carefully cleaned, and ready for many more years of backgammon.
"I will try my best to bring the new owner luck from wherever I'm at as long as the new landlord allows me. I won't 'haunt it' unless the new owner starts taking bad cubes." - Martin
I hope to see you there.
