Re: [musicians-349] PCJ -- New Wednesday Workshops, and more!

Wow! This is so cool! Thank you for setting this up. I keep missing opportunities to participate as I travel extensively, mostly North America (yep, it's for work) so I'm really struggling to make one of these events.

I do fly home almost every weekend to catch my breath, but then I'm out again in Monday morning (no, I'm not a flight attendant... I'm a marketing professional working in brand strategy).

So, I'm really jealous of those of you that get to participate or at least are available to participate.

There! I said it;-)

Cheers you guys an I look forward to meeting you soon.

Hey everybody!

I'm gearing up for the St. Patrick's weekend, so I'm pretty busy for the next few weeks.   For those that want to come out and catch some fantastic shows, The Lost Highwaymen and Finn Doxie are teaming up to do St. Patrick's up big-time!  Catch a more intimate show at Duffy's Irish pub on Friday March 15th, or catch the huge Maher's Irish Festival at Maher's Pub on Saturday March 16th or Sunday March 17th.

Before I dive headlong into that, though, I wanted to take a moment to tell you about some exciting new Wednesday Workshops now available.

The current Wednesday "Music Development Club" has grown a bit too big for its britches, so we're re-tooling and splitting things off.   The three new workshops, offered on different Wednesday nights, will focus on ...

a) Vocal Performance

b) Self-Accompaniment (Solo) Performance

c) Beginner's Jam and Practice

Here's how it works --

(Every Two weeks)  Beginner’s Jam Class and Practice Workshop

Formerly the “Music Development Club”, this workshop will simply be a beginner’s or ‘slow’ jam, with a little quiet instruction and educational conversation as needed.  This is the perfect place for proficient musicians to get their feet wet in a jam setting, or for experienced musicians to practice jamming on an unfamiliar instrument.   Limit: 12

(Once a Month) Practical Vocal Performance Workshop

This workshop will focus solely on the voice as an instrument, and on the role of the vocalist in the song performance.   Some practical voice instruction will be provided, as well as practical tips for engaging the audience, communicating with accompanists and other musicians, use of different microphone types, and even song orchestration and cheat-sheet construction.  Limit: 8

(Once a Month)  Practical Self-Accompaniment

This workshop will focus solely on the solo performer who wishes to both sing and play at the same time.  Whether you’re just starting out or looking to hone your solo style, we want to help!  Practical performance tips, use of equipment, orchestration advice, rhythmic self-accompaniment, and audience engagement will be covered.  Limit:  8

So that’s it.   Every Wednesday we’ll be offering a different type of workshop, to suit the differing needs of our group members.

In the next month we’ll be working up our “band camp” style workshop series, as well as our “absolute beginner’s/all-instruments”series.

Don't forget, we have our once-a-month Jam Session at Shaker and Vine!   This last Saturday was a blast!

And you're always welcome to host your own jams, and use this group to find players!   Contact me at [address removed] and I'll walk you through how to set up your own, private jam session and find people to come over and make music!

I hope to see some of you over the St. Patrick's weekend, and if not I hope to see you all at one of our jam sessions real soon!
