The world famous Takacs String Quartet - Experience them for free

I'm re-posting this from another meetup so I'm hoping the information is accurate.  They did this master class last year and it was quite the experience watching the quartet work with the students.  Not to be missed.

World Famous Classical String Quartet -  A chance to experience them for free.

Free - Tuesday the Quartet will conduct a Master Class for professional music students.  It's outstanding to hear them instruct and give critques to students, and sometimes they just perform as example.  That can be extraordinary.  After all, they really are one of the best Quartets in the world.  No Bull.  This event is scheduled in Lincoln Hall Peformance Venue, 75, which is the Basement/Lower Level Performance Space.   I suggest getting there between 11:30 and 11:45.  Seating is not reserved for the Master Class but those of us getting there early should be able to reserve a number of seats.  Event ends at 1:00 PM.

The Takacs did a master class at PSU last year which is how I knew about it. It's amazing to hear the students perform the entire quartet first and then develop as they are guided throughout the hour. It was also a pretty good primer on Shostakovitch for those that don't know him that well.

It was wonderful how the members of Takacs gave these young, accomplished musicians ideas for this very dramatic piece. They gave their reccomendations in a totally respectful way, musician to musician. Having been an opera singer, I was delighted that they used so many examples of emotion and imagery to explain their suggestions, just as we do for the stage. Besides technical advice, there was much value paid to dramatic BREATHING! Instrumentalists are always being told to play as if singing. Good advice. It was a wonderful experience.
