Glad you found us! Portland Art Guild is a supportive, inclusive group of art enthusiasts of all art skill levels. We're about creating community, improving our art skills, and providing low cost art classes to the public so learning about art is accessible to all. We host social/art events and aim to provide display opportunities.
We rent a wonderful, large space for Mondays, so that's usually when we hold in-person classes, although occasionally this may vary. Our online classes are generally on Thursday evenings, although this may vary. We always have many more people in our classes than it shows on Meetup, by the way.
We're a nonprofit run by volunteers, and you can join us and be part of our volunteer team. Information about joining the Guild is on our website. You can still take our classes without becoming a PAG member. Official sign-up for our classes is on our website: **https://portlandartguild.org/**

Session time 10:00am to 2:00pm on September 8th, 15th, 22ndCome learn the fundamental techniques for painting a convincing landscape from a photograph, just as if you were seeing it in nature. Jonathan will start each class with a demo, going over landscape compositions, simplifying big shapes and details, and how to add value and atmosphere to your paintings to make them look more realistic. The instructor invites students either to paint along with a landscape photograph that will be projected, or to feel free to bring in a landscape photo that you would love to paint and Jonathan will will show you how to simplify the image and give you tips in turning it into a beautiful painting. Demos will be done in oils. Students may choose to work in oils (traditional or water-soluble) or slow-dry acrylics, such as Open Acrylics.

OPEN STUDIO is an opportunity for art enthusiasts of any skill level to get together in a supportive atmosphere while working on any project of your choice. Perhaps you have unfinished work or want to start something new? Perhaps you want to try out some of our Guild's art materials? We have large tables if you want to spread out your materials. Open Studio is a great way to work on your art and make new friends. If you bring a lunch, we have a fridge and microwave for your use. Hope to see you there!
Portland Art Guild - EXPLORING MIXED MEDIA PAINTING: A Nature-Inspired ClassPortland Art Guild, Portland, OR

Sessions from 10:00am to 2:00pm on October 6th, 13th, and 20thAllow your inner artist out to play in this mixed media class. Using fall leaves as the main theme, you will create your own unique designs. Students will learn to layer color, collage papers, acrylic paint, acrylic ink, granulation medium, stamping, scraping, and more. Melissa will discuss design, value, and color concepts; and talk about complementary colors (students will do a complementary color exercise). We’ll cover the use of thumbnails for exploring layouts and Melissa will demo various techniques for applying layers to achieve interesting texture and depth of color. Please note that the images shown are only one way to make a design. This class will give you the tools to create unique artwork using your intuition. It will add to your design skills and further your knowledge of mixing different media to create something unique to you. Students will work at
their own pace.Class 1: Leaves. Students will bring a variety of leaves and we’ll experiment with designing, layering, and
exploring mixed media.
Class 2: More Leaves and a Bird. Students will bring leaves and a reference photo of a bird. Melissa will bring
a Song Sparrow reference photo (it will look different that the Golden-crowned Sparrow in the example).
