Time once again for some FREE MST3K episodes at the HOLLYWOOD Library! We hope you'll be able to join us on Saturday, March 16th at 12:30 for 2 episodes of our favorite cowtown puppet show. Our theme this month: SUCCESSFULLY INCOMPETENT FANTASY FILMS.
What is it about the Fantasy genre that makes filmmakers lose their collective minds? Do they say, "Hey, this is FANTASY, you guys! It doesn't HAVE to make any logical sense or build character motivation or have a plot structure or ANY of that HARD stuff! Pass me the cocaine!" Well, we have 2 great instances of that coming up:
First off is episode 516-ALIEN FROM L.A. starring the tremendously talented and subtle Kathy Ireland. She falls down a hole and goes into some bizarre Australian hidden society filled to the brim with actors and lighting from the '80s. Despite the fact that Ms Ireland is an extremely beautiful woman, she looks like complete hell during most of it's running time, and talks with an extremely annoying voice, leading you to wonder if anybody actually WATCHED the film before it was released. Mike, Tom & Crow will guide you safely through this shoals of this slice of dumb from the brain trust at Cannon Films - the folks who definitively wrecked the Superman franchise.
Next up at 3 PM is episode 411-THE MAGIC SWORD! From the mind of MST regular Burt I. Gordon (THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN), a young hero must journey through a mystical land to rescue a fair princess abducted by a cruel villain. (Yes, I KNOW that's the plot of Super Mario Brothers, but it's also this movie as well.) Inexplicably, Crow becomes completely infatuated with Estelle Winwood, who plays a witch of some kind, and he sings a song in tribute to her. The movie really isn't THAT awful, compared to MONSTER A-GO-GO or MANOS, and the riffing from Joel and the Bots is top notch.
It's all getting started at 12:30 PM at the HOLLYWOOD branch of the Multnomah Library System on Saturday, March 16th. Please bring some snacks to share if you wish, and thank you in advance! See you there!
