PAUL TURLEY (Pragmatic Works) - COVID-19 Daily Updates Report Development Walkthrough

Paul, with the help of members of the Microsoft MVP program and his colleagues from Pragmatic Works, has developed a public Power BI report to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. The report contains daily updates from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) using data curated by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science & Engineering. Using the report, we can track the daily progression of confirmed cases, recovered cases and deaths by country. Where available, these metrics are also available state or province and US counties.

Check out the COVID-19 Daily Updates report by clicking here

Paul will demonstrate the different stages of their project:
· Source data from Johns Hopkins University & the CDC
· Some of the complexities & challenges encountered consuming & refreshing the dataset
· Initial Power BI dataset & report published to the web
· Project in GitHub to which the community are contributing
· Template app published through the community partner program
· How to install the app from AppSource

REID HAVENS (Havens Consulting) - Unlocking New Visualizations and Features in Power BI (Version 2)

Power BI is a great sandbox environment for report design. However, knowing how to leverage visuals and features in a way that adds additional value can be challenging. New visualizations and features can be created a number of ways including: layering visuals, customizing visual formatting, and/or utilizing DAX measures. The session will include a series of visualization and reporting techniques that you'll be able to leverage in your company's reports to take them to the next level.

Reid is the Founder of Havens Consulting Inc. and Microsoft MVP. He has a formal background in technology and organizational management, having obtained separate Master's Degrees in Organizational Development & Business Analytics. Reid has experience working with many of the Fortune 50, 100, & 500 companies. Additionally he guest lectures at the University of Washington and other universities, teaching Business Intelligence, Reporting, & Data Visualization.
