When it comes to writing IAC (Infrastructure as Code) for AWS (Amazon Web Services) there are numerous ways to accomplish the same thing. In this talk, we will weigh the following options, native AWS CloudFormation, AWS SAM (Serverless Application Model), and the Serverless Framework. We’ll also explore the benefits and trade-offs of each option.

About the speakers

Ryan Jones is the founder & CEO at Serverless Guru. Ryan started his career in the Innovation Engineering Department at Nike before moving into startup land in the middle of 2018.

Yann Stoneman is a full-stack cloud developer at Serverless Guru. Yann graduated from Juilliard with a Composition degree, before moving into the software development space about a year and a half ago. Since that shift, Yann has become a core member of the Serverless Guru development team and now has four AWS certifications. Yann primarily works in the backend and cloud architecture side working with a few clients who do cloud migrations and helping on backend application development.

"From ColdFusion to GraphQL: Rapidly Refactoring A Legacy Application"

SightBox builds a complex application using ColdFusion. Over time this became hard to maintain and extend. That led the team to investigate serverless solutions. With AWS AppSync, AWS Lambda, Amazon Aurora Serverless, and many other serverless services and tooling provided by Stackery, they learned how to rapidly refactor our application into a modern, efficient GraphQL service. This talk is an exclusive preview of Tory's presentation to be delivered at ServerlessConf in New York this October!
