How to find us

There is metered parking in front of our space on 15th. There is 2-hour parking around the corner on Weidler. There is more free parking in the neighborhood behind us.

This Meetup is for anybody who wants to learn shodo (Japanese Calligraphy). No experience is required. Beginners are welcome. You will learn basic knowledge and techniques in relaxing and friendly atmosphere. We can provide tools and materials. Let’s enjoy shodo together!

You will learn:
Shodo basics – how to use brush, ink, and paper.
Basic technique – tome, hane, harai.
History and basic knowledge of Japanese letters, hiragana, katakana, and kanji
You will select your favorite word or phrase and write it in Japanese
You will write your name in Japanese

Instructor: Yukashi Sano – Illustrator and designer
She was born and raised in Shizuoka, the foot of Mt. Fuji. She has loved painting since she was little. She has also studied shodo for a decade. Uniting her illustration and shodo, she has designed Japanese company trademarks. She teaches drawing and calligraphy both within and outside Japan. Her motto is everyone can enjoy drawing letters and pictures no matter what skill levels regardless of age and gender.

This event is for ages 16 and over.
*Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by guardian.

We will provide tools and materials (brush, ink, paper). If you have your own tools, please bring them.

Fee: $10
You can pay at the door, but we appreciate if you could prepay at Paypal

Seat is limited and we will prepare materials, so those who RSVP must show up. If you become unable to make it, please change your RSVP status.
