Attention traders: Due to the COVID situation, we will not be meeting until further notice. I will keep this notice updated as the situation evolves.

Below is the original description of our group, written by its founder and only lightly edited thus far. I inherited the group in early 2017, but his description remains accurate, as we have not changed anything essential. We have been meeting every fourth Thursday (roughly every month) for a while now. The venue is Produce Row, in the near southeast industrial neighborhood of Portland. As is indicated below, our gatherings are not formally educational, they are meant to be purely social.
That said, two of our stalwart members -- Mark Dokken and Forex5 (Steve) -- are offering to hold meetings, in person or online, that are educational in nature, by contrast to our social gatherings. No investment or trading advice is provided in these meetings, which are separate and independent from our meetup group (the Portland Trader's Social Club). Any trade or investment that participants make with real money, based on these educational meetings, is at their own risk. For more information, click here:
Personally, I'm a longer-term position trader and by no means am I an advocate of day trading or active trading as I've seen way too many people lose it all actively trading in the casino over the past few years.
Trading and investing can be a fairly isolating hobby or profession. I've been trading and investing for a decade now and can tell you that after staring at my damn computer screen for 12 hours straight, the last thing I want to do is stay at home. Meeting hundreds of traders over the past couple of years, the one thing that I have consistently discovered is that there's a huge demand for trader collaboration. Traders simply want to meet other people who can identify with them. Let's be honest, as traders, we want to meet other people who are able to understand why we are so weird!
And after a long day at the desk, all we really want to do is let loose a little and throw back a couple of Portland's best microbrews.
We will discuss global markets, individual stocks, options, momentum stocks, penny stocks, Honey boo boo, the Kardashians, whatever! I must emphasize that there will be no teaching or instructing.
As in the past, this group is definitely open to both men and women. The group is open to anyone interested in the markets . We are just here to have a good time. I will not be leading any seminars, selling DVD's, nor doing any consulting. We are simply here to shoot the breeze about markets and life, and to have a good time.
Lastly, please be respectful of other members. If your motive is to solicit members and sell them something, you will not be invited back. Nobody is required to pay dues. I'll pay for the Meetup.com membership. If you would like to buy me a beer every couple of months, I won't refuse!
