In the late 19th century Northwest Portland was the most prestigious neighborhood in the city. Today, numerous well-preserved historic residences and apartment buildings contribute to the distinctive character of the community. Situated in close proximity in this high-density area are several worship spaces built during the Portland boom years of 1890 to 1930. Each of these buildings displays a distinctive period revival style from that era.

We’ll view four of these sacred spaces and learn about the history and architecture of each: Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, St Mary’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, the former First Christian Science Church and Temple Beth-Israel Synagogue. On this tour, we plan to view the interiors of some of these worship spaces.

The tour covers six city blocks and lasts about 2 1/2 hours depending upon length of interior viewing. Easy walk.

Parking may be available in the Trinity Episcopal parking lot on 19th Ave just across the street from Trinity, and that is where the tour will start.

Cost of this narrated tour is $15. You may pay by check, cash or credit card at the start of the tour. You may also use PayPal by following this link: http://bit.ly/22q0waD
