Walking Tour of the Pearl District - CANCELLED
Details
The Pearl District was practically deserted 25 years ago. Join us on this tour to see how it's been transformed into a dynamic walker-friendly neighborhood with contemporary and adaptive high rise housing, fine dining and world class entertainment. The Pearl District in Portland has become a model of high quality urban living and a must-see destination for visitors to our world-class city.
I call this the "bones of the Pearl Tour" because this tour includes the historic warehouse buildings that became the basis for the present Pearl district. We'll have a look inside the re-purposed building that is now the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), located in the grand Classical Revival former Federal Building/Post Office (1916). (see photos below) This project is a great example of an "intervention" that blends historic character with 21st century use and sensibility.
The walking tour will last about 2 hours and covers less than a mile of easy urban terrain.
Cost of this narrated tour is $15. You may pay by check, cash or credit card at the start of the tour. You may also use PayPal by following this link: http://bit.ly/22q0waD
Note the AM starting time! Allow plenty of time to park, if you are driving. The Pearl District is well served by public transit.
This tour is co-sponsored by the Center for Architecture/AIA - Portland.
