What we're about

We are the official Microsoft Power BI User Group in Melbourne and we focus on connecting with like-minded individuals, sharing our knowledge and of course learning about Power BI!

This group is an extension of the very popular SQL Social Melbourne (http://www.meetup.com/SQL-Social-Melbourne/), and follows a very similar format. Attending our events will ensure that you get to meet, and learn, from other BI and Analytics Professionals in a social setting. You will be kept up-to-date on all things Power BI, including the latest releases of the products, cool demonstrations, tips & tricks, as well as the amazing solutions that can be developed.

If you work with Excel and find yourself annually manipulating data over and over again, then this is the group for you.

If you love data visualisation and generating insights from data, then this is the group for you.

If you love data, then this is the group for you.

We meet monthly and thanks to our sponsors we are able to provide you with food and drinks for the evening. So come along and join us, and find out how Power BI can make you a Data Rock Star!

Power BI Melbourne is part of the Microsoft Power BI User Group Program. Microsoft is not responsible for content on this website or activities that take place at Group meetings.

Meetup Agenda • 5:45pm - Arrive, meet & greet, drinks • 6:10pm - Welcome & intro - Luke Hayler • 6:15pm - Presentation • 7:15pm - Wrap up Session: Wacky DAX Did you know the DAX language is far more capable than merely running a SUM over a column, or counting rows in a table? DAX sits on top of one of the fastest databases around, and this session explores some unusual and creative scenarios that you previously would have thought as not possible using just DAX and Power BI. The session aims to reset your understanding of what is possible in DAX by walking through some interesting advanced code highlights from a recent series of games built using DAX (Blackjack, Tic Tac Toe, Hangman, Minesweeper and more). Each game explores different boundaries using DAX and attempts to try and find just where those lines are. Warning: This session will inspire you to add creative and exciting techniques to your own DAX based data models.
