Power BI began as an internal Microsoft project called Project Gemini in 2006, aiming to supercharge data analysis in Excel. It made its first public appearance in 2009 as PowerPivot. A few years later, Microsoft released Project Crescent (focused on interactive visualizations), which evolved into Power View.In 2013, Microsoft bundled these innovations into Power BI for Office 365, laying the foundation for modern self-service business intelligence. By 2015, Power BI emerged as a standalone, cloud-powered platform. Since then, it’s grown into a powerful tool with AI integration, real-time data, and deep Microsoft ecosystem support.
Today, Power BI helps users around the world turn complex data into clear, actionable insights.
