The Prairie Pathfinders walk in different parts of the city, exploring different neighbourhoods and finding scenic treasures. These urban walks range in length from 5km to 7km and usually lasting about 1hr & 15 min. We use dozens of different routes and many are from our best selling Prairie Pathfinder guidebook 'Winnipeg Walks'
Our weekend hikes explore some of the most scenic and out-of-the-way spots in Manitoba. Many routes are from our guidebook ‘Hiking the Heartland’. They range in length from about 7 to 9 km (usually about 2 hours of walking) at a pleasantly brisk pace.
Note: All walks are 'rain or shine' Participants are expected to arrange their own transportation to all hikes. However with our 'out-of-town' hikes many share rides. You can either post a request for a ride or an offer to give rides on the pertinent Meetup Event Page.
membership - We are no longer a membership club. We ask for a $2 drop-in fee for urban walks and a $6 fee for our 'out-of-town' hikes.
There's a special camaraderie to group walking. Come out and join us and discover for yourself!

This 7 km hike is in a beautiful part of the Sandilands Prov Forest (only about an hour’s drive from Wpg) We’ve charted a picturesque route that follows a series of ski trails. Following the hike, we’ll drive back to Steinbach for some traditional Russian Mennonite cuisine at the Mennonite Heritage Village.
a) Detailed directions to this hike will be sent to paid registrants prior to the event.
This 8km hike (approx 2 hr) will follow the Red River, which is the heart and soul of this community, and where Selkirk’s maritime heritage is much in evidence. We’ll pass by the Slough, Manitoba’s largest inland port, and a fine display of former lake vessels at the Selkirk Marine Museum - all prime attractions. Then we’ll follow park trails through towering river bottom forest and along quiet tree-lined streets past the homes of Selkirk’s earliest citizens.
We’ll begin and end our hike at the Selkirk Golf & Country Club. Your registration will reserve a seat for you at a $15 buffet lunch.
