How To Be An Ally: Improving Diversity and Inclusion in Product Organizations
ProductBC and Women in Product Vancouver bring you our first joint event... Did he/she/they really just say that? Yeah, it happens. In the #MeToo era, diversity and inclusion has become more important than ever before. As we create new norms, however, it can be difficult to navigate the complex and changing social expectations in our work environments. This is especially true in Product Management, where women, LGBTQ, racial, and other minorities are underrepresented. Alden Habacon is here to help. We’re partnering with Women in Product: Vancouver to bring Alden, a Diversity and Inclusion Strategist, to teach our members how to be better allies: what being a great ally means (for all genders, binary and non-binary), what we can do to become better advocates for diversity and inclusion, and how we as a community can be better together. Join us with an open mind and get ready to challenge your biases -- but also to build a stronger community, and hopefully meet some new folks across the Product organizations in our city. SCHEDULE Enter the building from the Granville and Georgia corner, under the big 725. Microsoft will have staff to greet attendees in the lobby as you arrive. You will then be directed to the 7th floor. 5:45 PM: Doors Open 5:45 PM - 6:20 PM Food and Networking 6:20 PM - 6:30 PM Welcome and Opening Remarks 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM How To Be An Ally Workshop 8:00 PM - 8:10 PM Closing Remarks 8:10 PM - 8:40 PM Networking ABOUT ALDEN For over a decade Alden E. Habacon has been helping organizations increase diversity and achieve real culture change towards inclusion excellence. What we're about

As Product Managers, Owners, Analysts and Marketers, we all share a common pursuit: to create thoughtful products that solve customer problems. To do this effectively, we require a flexible and diverse set of skills along with a passion for learning.

ProductBC is a non-profit organization that aims to serve the local community by offering our members access to events, mentorship opportunities, and content so they can learn and grow as product professionals.

Join us at our events, including talks from guest speakers on topics around product management, networking opportunities, and a good old-fashioned chin-wag over a beer or two.
