PERSONAL GROWTH - THE ESSENCE OF YOUR PRODUCT CAREER
by Kristina Walcker-Mayer (Product Lead at Zalando, Berlin)
Product careers are very complex ones, because they naturally require a very broad but deep understanding of business, different functions, people, trends and technology. No matter on which stage you are in your product career, you need to act as a leader, being the one to provide guidance and the vision. In order to succeed on so many different levels, it helps to understand and master yourself first: what are your natural strengths and weaknesses? How can you embrace and accept those and with which kind of people should you partner up with to create true value and drive success for your customers, your company and yourself?
Kristina brings 8 years of digital experience to her role as Team Lead Product at Zalando. Before taking over the product leadership in the Loyalty team, she led the browse & shop & find team for Mobile Apps, delivered customer-centric solutions and drove the mobile mindset within Zalando’s various departments. Besides her passion for building products, Kristina hosts her own podcast “emploYAY” that challenges us to rethink employment & purpose at work and showcases role models with nonlinear careers & new work approaches. Before joining Zalando, Kristina worked as Mobile Consultant and Account Manager for Aperto Move and icon mobile, building up mobile strategies and creating innovative mobile solutions for major clients in the retail, television, NGO and automotive industries. Kristina holds a M.Sc. in Business Administration.
THOUGHTS ON WORK-LIFE BALANCE
by Grace Kwak Danciu (Group Product Manager at Google, Zurich)
Having a career in product while working 60% at Google - is this even possible? Grace is showing us how she combines her challenging job with her family life and shares some learnings she drew from the past years as working mom.
Grace has been a Product Manager at Google for the last 15 years, and has worked on defining products such as Google Calendar, Google Flights, and most recently Google Assistant. Previous to Google she worked at Microsoft, and before that she got a degree in Computer Science from Harvard University.
Grace has two beautiful children and has been working part-time (60%) since her first child was born 5 years ago. There have been many positives and negatives from this decision -- even at a company as progressive as Google -- and she has a lot of thoughts on topics such as leaning in/out, "having it all," and how becoming a parent makes you better at work.
We can't wait to see you at the event!
