Hi Product People! After some well-deserved holidays (at least for some of us) we are back with a great session and two amazing speakers. Their background speaks for themselves and below you’ll find the abstract of each talk (they promise knowledge to be shared and lots of fun!).

Join us! RSVP asap as the spots are limited, and help us by sharing the word with your friends!

## Speakers ##

  • Joaquim Baptista - Technical Writer at Farfetch

Currently working at Farfetch, Joaquim has documented large and evolving software products that require industrial writing processes instead of just writing craftsmanship, since 1997.
In 2014, Joaquim adopted comics as a way to quickly introduce product features to new users, or to add insight to training lessons. Later, Joaquim adopted comics to show how users experience a product, and to explain the many problems solved by a larger company.
Before tackling documentation, Joaquim worked as trainer, programmer, system administrator, and academic researcher.

Talk abstract: "Successful software products accumulate features over time, becoming more complex and harder to explain.
When complex products are combined with staff turnover, knowledge of product features erodes over time, and the software products are used below their potential.
Comics can teach staff how to recognize the situations that products solve, as a starting point for further exploration of documentation and user interfaces.
This presentation will explore how we can craft comics that are actually worth a thousand words."

  • João Craveiro - Senior Product Manager at Onfido

João is a Senior Product Manager, with 10+ years overall experience in software (researching, building, teaching) — the last 4.5+ of which in Product, mostly for B2B products. Senior Product Manager at Onfido, building the new identity standard for the internet.

Talk abstract: "Customer-facing products often have internal-facing tools. There’s the tendency to not think of them as products, and give them just enough attention to produce a low-quality tool that “kind of does the trick” - even when they support a critical part of the service the product provides. The idea of this talk is to use real examples of internal-facing products and explain why it makes sense to give them the same treatment as customer-facing ones, and how to ensure they’re valued throughout the company."
