Tales from the Marketplace

In recent years, some of the biggest and most disruptive companies that emerged have been marketplaces: eBay, AirBnb, Uber, Deliveroo…
An organisation that simply sits at the intersection of two parties who want to do business with each other. Marketplace products intrinsically have their own unique challenges and opportunities. In this meetup, we will explore what some of those are, and what we can learn from them.

Ivan Jorge Gadeschi - Head of Product at Syft

In his talk, Ivan will show us how to build marketplace products while trying to minimise friction and accelerating the adoption process.

Richard Shepherd - Product Director @ Carwow

Richard will discuss how you organise and structure product teams when working with a marketplace product. Should you aim for a 50:50 split to each side of the marketplace? Is that even optimal? Richard will provide his thoughts and experiences collected at a number of marketplaces he has worked with.

Pip Jamieson - Founder and CEO @ The Dots

How do you get beyond the marketplace? When does a marketplace not work? Pip will share her experiences about the nuances and opportunities in building and growing a marketplace. Spoiler: don’t make it impersonal.

This month's curator is Jayson Robinson. Jayson is a Product Manager at Toptal, working as part of their growth team. He is also a Mind the Product trainer, and one of ProductTank London's organisers without whom none of the meetups would be possible!

A huge thanks to our sponsoring partner this month, EmpathyBroker - EmpathyBroker helps eCommerce stores provide a more joyful search and navigation experience, one that pairs great technology, functionality and features with customer inspiration, emotions and empathy.
