What we're about

"Reliability engineering is a sub-discipline of systems engineering that emphasizes dependability in the lifecycle management of a product. Dependability, or reliability, describes the ability of a system or component to function under stated conditions for a specified period of time." - IEEE

If Reliability Engineering is the discipline, then the individuals who make this happen at scale in production are known as Production Engineers: aka Reliability Engineers, Site Reliability Engineers, or System Engineers. Not quite DevOps or System Administration, Production Engineering places a heavy emphasis on the engineering portion of running and operating large scale services in production and process-automation-driven-development.

This group aims to further expand and share best practices and knowledge about the Production Engineering space while also bringing together many people who share the role, enabling them to network and help further define the role. Sharing is the way this works long-term.
