[7:00 - 7:30] - Productivity Engineering at Google (Michael Bachman)
Michale will give us a quick overview of the Engineering Productivity discipline at Google, a brief history and focus on the next big steps forward.
Speaker bio: Michael Bachman is a Senior Engineering Director at Google, leading a large global Engineering Productivity organization across Android and Ads. He was one of the first engineers within the discipline and continues to help define and shape its future.
[7:30 - 8:00] Architecting Edge services for Developer Experience (Paul Bakker)
Netflix has become the poster child for microservices architecture. Although microservices can solve many problems, they also introduce many new challenges. How do feature teams (device teams, UI, etc.) connect efficiently to backend services in a microservices architecture? How do you create an edge API that satisfies teams with vastly different requirements? And how do you operate these mission-critical edge services?
In this talk Paul Bakker discusses how and why Netflix got to the latest iteration of our edge architecture; a PaaS highly optimized for developer experience.
Topics include:
The Netflix edge architecture
Client specific APIs with Falcor
Developer tooling to optimize developer experience
Speaker bio: Paul Bakker is a senior software engineer on the edge developer experience team at Netflix, where he primarily works on tools to increase developer productivity within the company. Besides a love for writing code, Paul has a passion for sharing knowledge. He’s the coauthor of Java 9 Modularity and Modular Cloud Apps with OSGi, both from O’Reilly. Paul is also a frequent speaker at conferences about modularity, container technology, and many other topics. He blogs at Paulbakker.io and tweets as @pbakker.
