This is a monthly book club for women in the Prosper/Frisco/McKinney area who love reading and want to expand their social circle with other book-a-holics, Kindle converts, and audiobook aficionados. Events will be scheduled for the last Tuesday of each month.
The primary goal is to read "big books with big ideas" that are also ENTERTAINING. While there won't be any easy reading chick-lit, YA, or feline detective mysteries on the schedule, we also won't be reading literature just for literature's sake. Instead, we'll read a variety of books (mostly fiction) from a range of genres including historical fiction, contemporary fiction, southern gothic, etc.; and that immerse us in topics including immigration, women's issues, social class, crime, gender and identity, religion, etc. The common denominator in all of the books that we'll read is that they should be well-reviewed by critics and readers, with a minimum 4-star average rating on Amazon and Goodreads. There are no guarantees you'll like every book, but you might also be exposed to a GREAT book that you'd never have picked up on your own.
Please take a moment to review the following basic Book It guidelines: 1. Read the book. 2. Be open to discussing the book's topics and listening to other ladies' opinions. 3. RSVP for at least 1 event every three months (how will we get to know each other if you don't actually come?). 4. Please include a picture of yourself with your profile so that we can recognize each other at events. 5. Same day RSVP cancellations are understandable (stuff comes up) but "No Shows" without changing your RSVP are not. 6. Finally, this book club is for ladies only (sorry, guys).
