Last Fri's P&P, & requested feedback for future weird, weirder, weirdest life topics

Hey Everybody,

Don't know about you, but I got a kick out of the WEIRD LIFE Q&A last Friday night - both from John's talk and from the comments from the peanut gallery.  Alternately informative and entertaining.

Andy:  (on the problem with beaming our presence to Type II Civilizations out there, in two words:  "Intersteller Jihadists."

Iggy:  "Maybe civilizations stop sending out signals as soon as they develop anal probing."

That's entertainment.

Anyway, it's true that John had the impossible task of relating the entire history of SETI as well as a crash course in basic chemistry and then the biochemistry of weird (as opposed to weirder or weirdest) life.  That is, life of the sort that astrobiologists actually speculate about, but beyond carbon-based life.  So that might have been too limiting for some of us.  And it's true that perhaps it wasn't the best idea to try out a topic night with full-on Q&A right from the start, rather than giving our speaker a chance to develop his topic first.

So my question for you now is:  Do you want to try this again at a not-too-distant future P&P?  And if so, what particulars would you like to see John focus on next time?  More about the chemistry?  More about the possible types of aliens?  More details about weird life, so John can finish his notes?   Or what else?

Answer here or email me at [address removed].
