What we're about

Are there any women in Pueblo/PW & Southern Colorado that hike with their social dogs? Are you looking for other gals who have the same interest, in hiking with their pups, as you do? Then this group is for you! We will be going to areas with established trails, 2-7 miles in length, at least 2-4 times per month, where dogs can be off-leash (for most of the hikes); this includes San Isabel, Florence, Buelah, Westcliffe, Co Springs, Monument, Hwy 24, and occasionally, further North, around Denver. The currently established groups originate in Colorado Springs and Denver, which makes it difficult to regularly attend their hikes due to meetup time and distance.

YOU CAN BRING A GUEST, SPOUSE OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER, AS LONG AS YOU ATTEND! Note that there is a place to indicate number of guests you will bring on the RSVP.

Hike Section 13 in Canon City (see premeetup details below)

Big Daddy's Diner

Description:
This is a single track trail, which makes a figure 8 with 2 trails, Lamba Chops & Hot Shot. It is a developed bike & hiking trail near Canon City. If you do the entire figure 8, it is about 6 miles.

This area is desert, mixed with grasses and trees. There are cactus, so bring along a tweezers just in case your pup gets a sticker or two. The trail itself is VERY smooth and easy to walk on, with minimal elevation. Also, most of it is hard packed, so even though there is some precipitation predicted on Tuesday, it still should be easy to hike.

I think most folks and dogs can do this trail....You can do one loop or
both; its just another great place to see and experience.

Weather is predicted to be party cloudy, 3-5% chance of precipitation, with temps between 41-48 degrees and a 7-9 mph wind from the west.

What to bring: Dress in light layers, and bring along a windbreaker, enough water, snacks and lunch for you and your pups; wear shoes with good tread, and a hiking pole is suggested. I am going to bring my ice trekkers, just in case

Premeetups:
1st premeetup: Big Daddy's Diner in Canon between 8:50 and 9 AM. We will caravan from there to the trailhead.

Any questions, please text or call Colette at[masked] or Bonnie at[masked]

Hope you will join us!

Reilly Canyon Trail in Trinidad Lake State Park (premeetup 8:50-9:00 AM)

Trinidad State Park

Description: The Reilly Trail is located in Trinidad State Park. The trail meanders, with moderate ups and downs, through pinon and juniper woodlands along a mesa along the lake. There are many photo opportunities, including square topped Fischer Peak, which looms above Trinidad.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate, 4 miles one way

Directions: Take I-25 South to Exit 14A; follow the signs for Route 12; the park is about 3 miles west on Route 12, on the left. It will take us about an hour and 20 minutes to get to the park, and 50 minutes from the Colorado City/Rye rest stop. You do need a state pass to park or will need to pay for parking. $9.00 for a daily pass. 1/2 price if you have a Golden Passport

To reach the trailhead, drive about 3 miles past the main park entrance and take a left at the Cokedale turnoff to access the Reilly Canyon entrance. Cross over two cattle guards; the trailhead is about 200 yards past the second one, on the left.

What to bring: Water, snacks for you and your dog; dogs are supposed to be leashed - need to watch out for mountain bikers. Because this is a supposed to be a lightly used trail, there may be areas where we can let them off leash. Shoes with good tread and hiking pole(s) for balance & ice trekkers (just in case of left over snow) is recommended

Weather: It will be party cloudy. Dress in warm light layers. Temps will be between 46-56 degrees & absolutely perfect for hiking in this area. The winds are predicted to be 8-9 mph. It is a good idea to always bring ice trekkers during this time of year.

Carpool/Pre-meetup site: Colorado City/Rye Rest Stop (called "Cuerno Verde Rest Stop") between 8:50 and 9:00 AM. Then we can carpool, and follow each other, so we all arrive at Trailhead at the same time.

Be sure and RSVP on this website. Also, load my phone number into your cell, so if we need to get in touch we can! Thanks!

Please call or text me at[masked] or Colette @[masked] if you need to make other carpool arrangements, or prefer to meet us at the Trinidad State Park entrance.
