What we're about

Are there any women in Pueblo/PW & Southern Colorado that hike with their social dogs? Are you looking for other gals who have the same interest, in hiking with their pups, as you do? Then this group is for you! We will be going to areas with established trails, 2-7 miles in length, at least 2-4 times per month, where dogs can be off-leash (for most of the hikes); this includes San Isabel, Florence, Buelah, Westcliffe, Co Springs, Monument, Hwy 24, and occasionally, further North, around Denver. The currently established groups originate in Colorado Springs and Denver, which makes it difficult to regularly attend their hikes due to meetup time and distance.

YOU CAN BRING A GUEST, SPOUSE OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER, AS LONG AS YOU ATTEND! Note that there is a place to indicate number of guests you will bring on the RSVP.

Snowshoe North Taylor Creek to Megan Lake TH, Westcliffe (see details below)

Description: We will most likely park at the Gibson Creek Trailhead and snowshoe North Taylor Road and North Taylor Creek Trail (FR 173) and then return back to the parking area. If we can park farther up the road, we will hike the trail towards Megan Lake. Length: hoping for 4-5 miles round trip.Of course the length of the hike depends on many factors, including the type of snow we encounter. Looks like no more than a 500 foot elevation gain in the first 2 miles. So it should be a fairly easy snowshoe. Snow is predicted for Monday this week. Friday is supposed to be sunny, and therefore a good day for a snowshoe! It is predicted to be about 14 degrees when we start to a high of 29 degrees but no wind so as long as we keep moving it should be ok. What to bring: snowshoes, yaktraks or ice trekkers, poles, & gaiters a way to carry snowshoes if necessary, hiking poles, warm light layers, leash, water & snacks for you and your pup. Carpool/Pre-meetup site: We will need to take Highway 96 towards Westcliffe. 1st premeetup: McKenzie Junction (intersection of Hwy 96 & Hwy 165 btwn 8:25 & 8:30 AM; 2nd premeetup: Westcliffe Subway btwn 8:55 & 9:00 AM. It will take about 15 minutes to get to the TH parking lot from there. If additional meetups are necessary please call Bonnie @[masked] before Friday January 25, 2019 If you are running late, call or text me at[masked] or Colette @[masked]. We may not have service at some point.

Sat afternoon Walk at Lake Minnequa followed by tea at Barb's (see pre-meetup)

Description: Barbara will host a hike around Lake Minnequa followed by hot tea & a treat at her house, which is walking distance from the Lake! Premeetup: Meet at Fire Station #4 (2201 Lake Avenue Pueblo) northside parking area at to start the walk. 2:00 PM. It is supposed to be Mostly Sunny with a high of 49 degrees on Saturday Jan 26th. Additional Info: If you have never hiked around Lake Minnequa before, this is a great walk for dogs that are just beginning their conditioning for hiking, or for small or older dogs that need smoother surfaces or shorter distances to walk. Be sure to bring water and a leash for you dog(s). Please join us for this Saturday afternoon walk! Love to see you there! Barb's contact #[masked]

Tennessee Pass Cookhouse and Yurts - Snowshoe/XC Ski trip

Another fun year in the yurts! We have 2 yurts reserved this year at the Nordic center at the base of Ski Cooper between Leadville and Minturn for $240 a night (plus tax/fees) per yurt - about $45 per night per person if we fill them up. The yurts sleep 6 people in double beds (3 beds). You have access to all of the Nordic trails for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Trail fees are included with yurt reservations. Equipment rentals are "two days for a one day fee" and are minimal. No dogs are allowed. There is a gourmet restaurant only 1/2 mile away, which you can snowshoe/xc to or they will deliver your meal by snowmobile. You can reserve the yurt and can cancel anytime up to 5 days prior to reservation date to receive a full refund. Full info can be found at: http://www.tennesseepass.com/sleep-yurts As in the past, we will coordinate food, rides, etc. as we get closer. Dinner at the cookhouse is quite expensive, but lunch is more reasonable and we have had a nice lunch there on the Sunday that we leave. We currently have reservations for 12 for lunch on Sunday but we can update that with everyone's preference once we get closer. Please RSVP early so we can determine how many yurts as this trip will fill up quickly!
