What we're about

Calling all lesbian, gay, bisexual women and gay men who are in their 30's, 40's and 50's! This Atlanta based Meetup is for those who want to make fun and healthy connections with like minded women! Gay men are always welcome too!

This Meetup is a small structured Meetup with the expectation that members will sign up and participate in events. I have several years experience organizing Meetups, it is important for me to ensure our Meetup is active and the members are engaged and involved with our activities and events. I want this Meetup to be an all inclusive Meetup for both men and women, singles, couples, gay/lesbian/bisexual and people of all races and ethnicity. It is important that we all feel safe, and comfortable within our Meetup.

The name of this Meetup was inspired by a genre of lesbian literature (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesbian_literature) that refers to any mid-20th century paperback (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paperback) novel or pulp magazine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulp_magazine) with overtly lesbian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesbian) themes and content. Lesbian pulp fiction was published in the 1950s and 60s. Because very little other literature was available for and about lesbians at this time, quite often these books were the only reference the public (lesbian and otherwise) had for modeling what lesbians were. Pulps have been understood as signs of a secret history of readers, and they have been valued because they have been read. The more they are read, the more they are valued, and the more they are read, the closer the relationship between the very act of circulation and reading and the construction of a lesbian community becomes...Characters use the reading of novels as a way to understand that they are not alone."[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesbian_pulp_fiction#cite_note-1)

These books were sold at drugstores (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharmacy), magazine stands (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsstand), bus terminals (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_station) and other places where one might look to purchase cheap, consumable entertainment. The books were small enough to fit in a purse or back pocket (hence both the brand-name and the generalized term "pocket books") and cheap enough to throw away when the reader was through with it.

I want to manage an intimate group, at this time I have my settings set so that ONLY 50 members can join. I will consider changing the setting if it is appropriate. If you feel that geographically the Meetup doesn't meet your expectations or we are not doing the type of things of interest for you, please consider not joining the group to keep open a place for a new member. I also, feel that it is important to ensure members are actually attending Meetups. If you have any ideas please submit them to me, I would love your feedback!

This Meetup is NOT focused on the club/bar scene. I want to establish and encourage a culture of maturity and an actual alternative to the typical lesbian social scene many of us have grown past. This Meetup first and foremost emphasizes friendship and a desire to make valuable connections within our unique lifestyle. We have come a long was since those pulp fiction novels! LOL!

I want us to take advantage of what the Atlanta metro area has to offer!

• Great Restaurants

• Anything else to add to the ongoing list.

Ideally, It would be great to have at least 2-3 Meetups a month, depending on participation, I really like an active group which is why I chose to start my own Meetup.
So, I hope we will be able to provide many opportunities for everyone. Some of the Meetups will be small and some will be larger depending on the type of event and level of participation.

$$$ Many Meetups will involve a cost, for example when we go to restaurants, museums, films, etc. ALL members are responsible for covering their own expenses. Some Meetups may require a very small fee in addition to individual cost to cover Meetup fees and expenses, I don't expect those fees to be more than a few dollars. Please keep these concerns in mind when attending events.

??? Also, keep in mind that there will be a lot of time and effort in the research and planning of events. No shows happen...but I will need to remove members if they are no shows to events. No shows are not fair to the group...not cool :(

!!!This Meetup DOES NOT promote any religious or political ideology. Please be respectful of that at ALL times. Also, any unwanted sexual attention or harassment will not be tolerated, we are all adults please keep that in mind while interacting. Inappropriate conduct will result in immediate removal of the Meetup. Each member is responsible for their own conduct and due diligence. If there are conflicts among members the Organizer is not responsible for the resolution of such conflicts.
