Community Check-in: Stress Management

Details

> This week, we're requesting participants to pay attention to the experience of stress in terms of physical sensations and mental effects. If you are unable to do that during a period of actual stress, maybe use the memory of a stressful time to remember how stress feels like.

> We're going to discuss the nature of stress and explore its natural behaviour and attributes. We're doing this as a series of checkins where we explore the phenomenon of stress and common strategies to effectively manage it.

# Etiquettes and Guidelines

An online meeting is just a virtual room with multiple windows. The main difference is that in a physical meetup, you only bring yourself and your device(s). Through your window into a virtual room, you bring your surroundings too.

## Audio-Video

So, it is absolutely important that you mute your audio when starting the meeting and keep yourself muted unless you want to say something. You can click the mic icon to mute/unmute yourself or use Cmd + d or Ctrl + d to mute/unmute yourself.

Please use earphones/ headphones. Not doing so can feed the sound of the speakers back into your mic and create something called a feedback loop which can be extremely discomforting but also can be harmful, for all the participants.

If everyone except the current speaker mute their mics, the data load of the call also reduces and even those with poorer connectivity can have a good experience.

Such online meetings also provide you greater privacy. If you prefer that, you can switch off your video by clicking the video icon or Cmd + e or Ctrl + e.

Switching off video also saves a lot of data so if a lot of people experience connectivity issues, we'll switch our videos off.

## Interrupting

If you'd like to interrupt the current speaker or discussion, feel free to chime in by unmuting yourself.

However, if it isn't urgent and you can wait a bit, please send a message in chat instead. One or more of the event hosts will be watching the chat and will cue you in.

## Networking and Private Conversations

Please create a new meeting in Google Meet and share the link in the chat if you'd like to invite anyone to a private chat. You can also join the link someone else has shared.

When wrapping up or when we need you back in the discussion, someone will attempt to join your room and call you back, just as if this was happening in a physical location. This is why we request you to share the meet link in the main chat.

It is totally upto you whether you'd let the person enter your private meeting (conversation).

## Privacy, Safety and Code of Conduct

These events are governed by a concrete and non-negotiable code of conduct: https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/virtual-events/online-code-of-conduct/

Unlike physical events, online events allow great anonymity. Please use your judgement and be slightly more careful than usual when interacting in private.

Avoid sharing any personal information with other attendees including phone numbers, physical addresses and email addresses unless you are absolutely sure.

You can always share and connect on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, WordPress.org slack, etc.

Although it should be obvious, do not share any other critical information that can be used to harass or hurt you physically, psychologically or financially.

Conversely, please avoid asking other members for their phone numbers and email addresses.
