Talks
Python for Language: An Introduction to NLP and the Python NLP Universe
Speaker:
Dr. Natasha Latysheva
Abstract:
Natural language processing (NLP) is an exciting and rapidly growing at the intersection of language, text, and machine learning. This talk provides an introduction to some of the main areas of NLP and the Python libraries available for working on them.
The session will begin with a survey of NLP topics, including text classification, topic modelling, and chat bots. Then, there will be two deeper dives to explain the intuitions and techniques behind:
- Word embeddings, which map words to numerically-represented meanings, and which have become pervasive across many NLP sub-fields; and
- Machine translation, focusing on providing a taster of modern deep learning methods for automatically translating text between languages.

Pose and Gesture Recognition in Python
Speaker:
Deniz Opal
Abstract:
Open Source projects have democratised pose and gesture recognition, creating a new paradigm in how people interact with technology. The latest libraries work cross-platform, even at low processing speeds, and only require a simple camera to process pose data, opening up unlimited possibilities in our interconnected camera-filled world.
Deniz will talk through the basics of getting set up with pose and gesture recognition in Python, so you may enhance your current solutions, or design new products, utilising the natural actions of your users.
