4th meetup: Deep Learning

Details

We are delighted to announce that we at PyData Cardiff will be hosting our fourth meetup on Wednesday the 10th of October, kindly sponsored by AMPLYFI (www.amplyfi.com) who are providing us with the venue together with food and refreshments. And of course, we are offering free beer, soft drinks and pizza.

This meetup will be centered around the topic of Deep Learning - the technology behind the recent AI revolution with applications in self-driving cars, machine translation, face recognition, intelligent assistants and many more. First, there will an introductory talk covering the basic principles and then the main, more in-depth, talk on deep generative models will be delivered from Silicon Valley via Skype

This meetup will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is interested to learn about deep neural networks, and will provide tips for getting started as well as examples of its applications in the cutting edge of the tech industry. For anyone who would like a quick crash course on neural networks before the meetup, we recommend this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aircAruvnKk

The venue will open at 18:30 when drinks will be provided. The talks will then begin at 19:00 with a break in between for refreshments. After the event, we will be heading to a pub that is en route to Cardiff Central Station.

We can also hold a Lightning Talk session ⚡ if anyone would like to give a short presentation. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is new to presenting, and would like to talk in a welcoming environment. Talk 2: Yunus Saatchi: Deep Generative Models

Yunus is a specialist in deep learning and probabilistic machine learning. He works as Chief AI Officer at AMPLYFI, and as a Senior Research Scientist at Uber AI Labs. Prior to AMPLYFI, Yunus held positions at a number of Silicon Valley’s most prominent startups. He holds a PhD in Machine Learning from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in Informatics from the University of Edinburgh.

In order to provide a comfortable and welcoming event for all, the evening will be covered by the official PyData Code of Conduct: https://pydata.org/code-of-conduct.html
