Hey everyone 👋, this is our 10th meetup for the year and the last one for 2021.

The event will be online only this time and our speaker is Simone Bacchio, Computational Scientist at The Cyprus Institute.

The event is organised in collaboration with the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the EuroCC National Competence Center in High Performance Computing.

We hope to see you there and we hope that we will have the chance for more physical events in 2022 😃

Abstract
------------

I will present a work done in collaboration with M. Martone (LRZ) on PyRSB, a Python interface to the LIBRSB library. LIBRSB is a portable performance library offering so called Sparse BLAS (Sparse Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms) operations for modern multicore CPUs. It is based on the Recursive Sparse Blocks (RSB) format, which is particularly well suited for matrices of large dimensions. PyRSB allows LIBRSB usage with an interface styled after that of SciPy's sparse matrix classes, and offers the extra benefit of exploiting multicore parallelism.

Bio
----
Dr. Simone Bacchio is a Computational Scientist at The Cyprus Institute. He obtained a joint PhD degree from the University of Cyprus and the Bergische Universität Wuppertal in 2015 under a Marie Skłodowska Curie fellowship as part of the High-Performance Computing in Life sciences, Engineering and Physics (HPC-LEAP) European joint doctorate project.

His research interests include Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics (LQCD), algorithmic developments, HPC software development, multigrid methods, large scale Monte Carlo simulations, hadron spectroscopy and benchmarks on PRACE Tier 0 systems.
